289 Kits
I am now looking at building the 289 FIA version. I know about the ERA and Unique versions, are there any others. Has anyone had expwerience with one of these. They both look excellent. They do not appear to be the types that use a Mustang donor car.
thanks

I'm near completion on building an ERA 289FIA. No, no donor parts. All new stuff.
Your choices for 289FIA are ERA, Kirkham, Unique, and Shelby. Last I recall, Kirkham and Shelby charge a premium for their 289 FIA due to the low volume of the transverse leaf-spring chassis.
I went for the ERA myself. I get the "most exact" 289 FIA body along with a coil-spring suspension (no "buggy springs"). ERA has been outstanding for service. I saw an ERA 289 FIA that is at ERA and ready for paint that someone wants to sell right here on Club Cobra. Good chance to jump the line and get your car.

The Kirkham FIA can be done with the coil spring or leaf spring chassis.
marcalan is selling his recently completed ERA.

The ERA FIA is a clone of CSX2345, the only original FIA race car that was never wrecked. You can check it out with a google search of CSX2345 - it is in the Shelby museum in Boulder, Colorado. Body exterior, cockpit, engine compartment, and trunk interior are exact duplicates of this original car. The ERA is engineered like no other (except Kirkham) glass bodied car. If you want more specific comments send me a PM, I had one of the other FIA's before, and sold it to upgrade to an ERA.

I was just looking at the pictures from the museum website, and the car they have labled as CSX2345 looks as if it has certainly been wrecked. The 98 car looks more like ERA's shape in the rear fender area. They have this car labled as both CSX2431 and CSX2341 (hmmm?) typo, I'm guessing. Either way if ERA used CSX2345, they performed a lot of magic to correct the rear fender, or it has been wrecked since. Or the it's possible that the museum has mis-labled that one too? http://shelbyamericancollection.org/...289cobra.shtml

I believe that 2345 had only the passenger side rear fender damaged.
I just did a search and found that the fender was damage in 1964...

Here is a picture I took at SAAC 31 of the driver's side of CSX2345, which you can see is not damaged.
Some other pictures I took at SAAC 31 are here:

I am very interested in a alum 289 FIA, that would be my first choice for a cobra replica. please email or PM if needed.

Been thinking the same way...
There are two Kirkhams at Fantasy Junction.
http://www.fantasyjunction.com/inventory
The unpainted car is on the website and has the hybrid coil spring suspension, they also have a painted leaf spring car that is not advertised yet.
BTW Cobra Country has three more for sale.

Hey Karl, yes they are very exact to original with 3" round tube frame on transverse leaf springs with cast stainless uprights. We were lucky enough to have an original car made available for dimensional references. Handmade aluminum bodies over tube steel birdcage. The cars are more recreation than replica. We're making chassis parts and a body buck now. Looking to build rollers at this point with full and final assembly also available.
