Teaching the wife how to park...

Okay, anyone else have this problem?

I park my Cobra by backing into the garage and justifying toward the side of the garage. The objective is plenty of room between my Cobra and the Tahoe that my wife drives.

Since I started doing this, my wife parks carelessly in the garage, leaving less space between the Cobra and the Tahoe than between the Tahoe and the wall on the other side (nobody gets out on that side)---and I now I have less space between my Cobra and the Tahoe.

Women always want us to talk, but strangely enough, they don't seem to hear you when you point out the obvious problem.

Now, on the cherry picker, directly in front of the Tahoe parking spot now hangs a cardboard sign with spray-painted letters and a huge duct-tape arrow. The sign reads, "KIM PARK ------------>".

This hasn't worked. She still justifies left, toward the Cobra.

Do I have to take her car keys away?

Do all women suffer from this malady?

Anything I can use to retrain her, short of a dog shock-collar?

Coupons for either shopping or a night out if she nails it!!

I have the same problem. She has to ease out of her car so that she don't ding the cobra with her door. There is a good 3' against the wall. Let me know if you find a solution.

FWB 08-21-2009 02:51 PM

you need to fill her side of the garage with more car stuff(yours) and tell her to park outside

Try this.....line it up on the center front of the hood. STOP!!!

I installed one of those park-smart wheel chalks on the floor to give my wife a target. She seems to consistently hit the mark now, but her car is also pretty small.

I also ended up swapping spaces so her driver door open towards the wall vs. my Cobra. I'd prefer to be on the other side of the garage, but I don't want to take any chances

I keep tell my wife to back straight out of the driveway, because the curb is a little narrower than our driveway. I cringe when I see the tire on her car going off the curb and the spoiler narrowly missing the curb.

Age old problem my friend. :JEKYLHYDE

I let my wife park her car outside my 3 car garage.

RodKnock 08-21-2009 03:17 PM

Buy her a Smart car. If she needs more room, then buy her a Mini.

Paint some lines on the floor and tell her to park between the lines. Even better, install those little round bumps to direct her into the "proper parking alignment."

Another alternative is to sign her up for an obedience training class.

If ever there was a pragmatist, Tom you would be the hands down winner. Always trying to solve the problem and not have it escalate into a bigger one.

Move out into the country....build your home...give her the garage...go out back and build you a shop. Her stuff in her garage...your stuff in the shop

A. When the Tahoe is outside, disable the remote door opener permanently. Play dumb.

B. Failing that, disable the in- garage receiver permanently. Play dumb.

C. Ice pick her tires. Play dumb.

D. After this much warning, disable HER.

Come on, you know how women think. Tell her you wish she would park a little closer to the Cobra.

DD,
Put a BB in the car. Then she will have to park away from the oil slick which will keep her at a safe distance.;)

Well what I did worked well. I put my 65 Mustang next to Cobra and kicked her Yukon out. Now my biggest problem is the truck so parking the the driveway so crooked I can't get the Cobra out of the garage past it. But no door dings. You just need to buy another toy!

Nail strips. :D

It may cost you a couple tires, but she will learn.;):D

I'm sorry to say but there is no solution to your problem. In the words of John Belushi " My advice to you is to start drinking heavily". You think you have problems, we have seperate garage doors and the buttons on the wall are about 6" apart. She opens MY door, gets in her brand new Acura, and backs through HER closed door. I need another drink.

Guilty as charged Rodney. By the way, before getting the laser pointer, used to have a tennis ball on a string placed so it just tapped the front center of the hood which means "STOP". She got that, then we moved and left the tennis ball behind. Before the "ball", she got tired of me "instructing" her on garage parking etiquette, so she stopped in the driveway, and let me park it. Got tired of that drill, so that's when I went to the Fred Flintstone tennis ball.

Teaching the wife

jwd I hear you. I have a three car garage that has a 470 Lexus that hasn't been driven since New Years 09, her Accord, and my four Bultacos with stablemates '74 440 Honda and 650 Suzuki. When the cobra arrived July 9th, the Accord enjoys the outdoors. It still will be in the outdoors until I move the bikes and paraphernalia. 'course I had six months to move said residents. When she did park her car, she would turn left just as she stopped. :JEKYLHYDE So I had a cockeyed car that I could hardly back out. Go figure?:LOL: 209
