Signs and Symptoms of Acute Cadmium Oxide Exposure: The following signs and symptoms may be noted following exposure to cadmium oxide: cough, dyspnea (shortness of breath), dry mouth or increased salivation, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bronchitis, and chest pain. Pulmonary edema may develop. Vertigo (dizziness), fever, and profuse sweating are common. Victims may collapse.

Emergency Life-Support Procedures: Acute exposure to cadmium oxide may require decontamination and life support for the victims. Emergency personnel should wear protective clothing appropriate to the type and degree of contamination. Air-purifying or supplied-air respiratory equipment should also be worn, as necessary. Rescue vehicles should carry supplies such as plastic sheeting and disposable plastic bags to assist in preventing spread of contamination.

And it is a carcinogen.

$hit I feel like I should be calling Hazmat!! I was about to take a scouring pad and scuff it off this weekend. Im glad you guys pointed out that it is dangerous. I would have been breathing that stuff in the whole time without a clue...

I doubt you'll ever see one of these pans rust thru......Mine had some minor surface rust where the plating was scratched or worn off, that's all... It's on a road race car and sees severe use and a lot of "sand blasting" on track from dust/sand/debris on the track.....

Maybe, but I doubt it, the owner would have to run salt water instead of engine oil and I doubt the motor would last long enough to rust out the pan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:3DSMI LE:

Seriously though, RAO-3 asked for some shots of my block on another thread and I set up a page for him this morning that has about 30 shots of my block and a lot of them have the oil pan in them. Now mind you my car has never even seen winter time driving (I keep it tucked away snuggly from Thanksgiving to Easter). My Canton pan has a lot of the crap on it that you all describe. You can peruse the shots here: http://208.255.159.239/428block/index.html

Not to rain on anybody's parade, but oil pans do rust through.Personally have played around with cars all my adult life,it happenes especially in the Northern hemisphere with condensation and from the inside out. This corrosion on the Canton pans is what concerns me.My Cobra sat for almost 5 yrs and that was one of the first things I noticed.I wiped mine down with WD-40 just to see what I could see.It appeared to be just an anodizing issue. Thanks for the help.

See David? I was right. I think you should pull your oil pan today, wipe it out, and inspect the inside for signs of rust. Report back to us on that. We'll be checking our emails while we're at the BBQ, but we'll be thinking about you.
