Cast aluminum cleaners?
Does anyone make an aluminum cleaner that will restore an old manifold to original brightness? I'm currently looking in marine supply stores. If I can't find something, there's always bead blasting.

I take it this was a polished manifold? If so, and it's not too bad, I'd use Mother's Aluminum Polish. If it's in bad shape, then a cotten wheel on a drill, or even a small one on a Dremel, WITH jeweler's rouge would be a good start, after that, the polish above.
If it's a natural or even gray surface, then just use Brake Klean and that's as good as it's going to get unless you want to polish it. That would be a lot of work, especially if it's still on the engine.

It's an old Elelbrock, still as cast. I want to bring it back, so it matches my Edelbrock heads.

To remove stains and clean try Eagle One Etching mag cleaner
http://www.eagleone.com/pages/produc...=1001&cat=5006
Then blast with walnut shells or glass bead, obviosly it has to be removed from your car.
This will leave it like new as cast.

That's what I'm looking for. Thanks for the input. The manifold has not been installed yet.

Ditto on the Eagle etching mag cleaner. Used that on my wheels. Much more effective than brake cleaner for "natural finish" aluminum. Just make sure you use it in a well ventilated area and I would suggest wearing gloves (preferably nitrile).

And don't use it on concrete that you care about.

I picked up a bottle of Eagle etching mag cleaner. My manifold is still at the machine shop, so I tried it on a 31 year old American Vector wheel on my '77 F150 4X4.
The good news, it seems to work really well. The bad news, now I have three more wheels to do.

Back in the day used to wet sand aluminum with kerosene and progressively finer emery paper. Final polish on buffing wheel.

NAPA sells a product for cast only that I'll have to look at when I get home. It worked OK but not like brand new. I have a fairly new manifold that had some gas stains on it.
I decided to use a paint product (which also is home) I believe called Durablast Aluminum. Its made for high heat and also finished it off with high heat Clear Gloss. Totally happy with the results. Its been over a year and still looks like it did on Day 1. Very little difference from bare aluminum.
