Thinking of going from 17 in. to 15 in.
Hello all,
I am thinking of going from the PS fully polished Pin drive wheel to a 15 in wheel Pin drive.
Has anyone had the same thought and acted on it, and regrets.

FWIW, I like my 17" Vintage Wheel pin drives as they allow me a better selection of performance rubber. My M/T drag radials hook like no GY Billboards ever could. The 17" wheel allows for a shorter sidewall too which makes the DRs work in the corners too.

I am going the other way. Currently on 15" Halibrands and ordered a set of full polished 17" PS wheels last Friday.
I figure I will keep both so I can switch back and forth to suit my fancy.

Just my opnion but I think 15" wheels look better on cars like ours than larger wheels.
Tire selection sure isn't as good with 15" but I'll deal with that for the right look.

I have 17" & 15". 15" Ride a lot smoother & Look more vintage accurate. 17" ride is kinda harsh, in comparison.

I had 15" on my previous SPF and were fine but moved to 17" w/PS 335.35.17 That's a lot of rubber and really hooks up even with a 640 horse stroker! Very impressive!!!! It's all a matter of opinion-wow factor vs. original look. Still a replica so I don't get too crazy about original.

Oh yeah. Maybe it's just an opinion but I prefer the 15" Wheels & Tires for look & ride. Hope I'm helping you spend your hard earned money

priobe,
I'm sure you already thought about this: make sure the front brakes will fit inside the 15" rims.
I have 13" Cobra brakes up front and 15" rims will definitely not fit.
Just a thought,
Tom

Tom,
You are right. I am running 12.19 rotors but using the Wilwood Superlite caliper. I think I wouldalso have to change the caliper.

I'm running Superlites on 11.75" rotors and they fit inside a 15" compomotive wheel using a .500 spacer.

It just depends on what you think looks the best..15" or 17". With the larger wheels you have better tire choicce and they give the car the "big wheel look"...the more modern appeal.
For me I wanted the original look with "big meats" , the more tire look from the sixties. It makes the car look like one from that time period .
Both looks are great!

You can get 275/50-15 drag radials for the 15 inch wheels and they will hook up better than performance 17 inch modern tires and still retain the original look.

I got the 15" wheels because I liked the look better than the 17", not just because they are more original looking. I have wilwood 4 piston calipers with 12.2" rotors and they fit in the 15's just fine.

Chaplin,
Who's tire do you have with your EM and What suspension setup did you go with. Finally, do you have a Gen III model
I may just keep both.

I have the same size rotors. Close but does just fit my 15's.
