Rear View Mirror
The Cobra review mirror is a cute mirror, and as I have not yet driven my car, I'm looking to all of you out there that have. Does the cute mirror that is period correct really work?
Have any of you ever used a panoramic rear view mirror?
I've posted a photo here of a mirror I'm thinking of using. Has any used this or something similar.

I bought this one on eBay and have it clipped to the stock rearview mirror on my Superformance.

I swear by it...really gives you a wide area of visibility. Regardless of which one you go with, I think it's worth if for the street.

I'm by no means tied to the originality of the rear view mirror, so installing a permanent one that works for street driving and track events is a direction I would like to pursue. But before spending $120+ bucks for this one, it would be nice to hear the experiences of others.

I never look back, but if I did, I wouldn't want the stock roadster rear or side view mirrors.
The one you posted looks nice.

The standard mirror is OK for steet use. The left side mirror is also fine. But the right side mirror is pretty useless. It's too far away for you to easily see. It's quicker to just look over your right shoulder.
I bought a large convex mirror from somewhere - summit I think. It gave me an excellent view all across the back of the car, and along the side. But it was too heavy, and after a few minutes it was pointed down.
I bought the broadway mirror. It gave me a better view of the passenger seat, and did not help side vision at all. It's just not long enough.
Then I went down to Pep Boys and bought a suction cup convex mirror for about $3. I stick it to the windshiled next to the standard mirror. Gives me an excellent view of that corner without taking my eyes off the track/road. One quick glance and I can see if there's another car over there.

The side mirror on mine is totally and completely useless. The rear view mirror is fine. But I have mine on the windshield and not on the dash to help with visibility.
I find that it's very easy to just look around you in these cars that I personally don't think I need anything more...

Mine came with the high windshield mirror- it works okay, but the field of view is small- you can just see between the two roll bars.
I added wide angle stick-ons to the side view mirrors, which helps on the left, but the right is still fairly useless. I'll probably go with a suction mirror on the right eventually.
Being legally blind on the right side, any assist helps, especially when parking

Arthur, I use a water skiing mirror from Bart's which clips to the top of the windshield. It has plastic screws so it doesn't mar the chrome. Two small thumb screws and it is off. Works great. Chas

What about mounting the Side-view mirror on the doors? Should be able to see them rather well in that position.

The stock mirror works just fine without the top.With the top on zero viz.My plan is too make up a taller post for the stock mirror.

I mounted mine to the windshield. I could not see a thing on the fender. Also mounted my inside mirror to the top of the windshield instead of the dash. I now can see very well.

"Stock" RV mirror on the dash was just too low for me because of the rear cowl rising. I made a center rod window stabilizer and mounted the modified stock mirror near the top. If you don't want/need a windshield rod, you can mount any RV mirror the same way the US factorys do: glue a slip on base mount to the windshield.

Is your center rod stabilizer similar to the one that Finish Line sells? If not, would like to see any pictures of what you've done.

I just had Dwight, another CC member, install mine. He placed the rear view at the top of the windshield....looks great and operates great. He created a bracket for the side mirror and attached it to the windshield....so much better. ~G

Seems like the way to go is to put the rear view mirror on the top of the windshield and the side mirrors on the windshield posts. Now I need to look at what is available and select the best option.
Has anyone noticed any vibration problems with the rear view mounted to the top of the windshield?

Hey Arthur, just wait until you can go-cart your Cobra and keep all of these suggestions as possibilities. The side mirror doesn't work very well when it's attached to the door because of vibration. No matter where you put the dash mirror it still has the same dimensions and will show you exactly the same area. The biggest "problem" with the dash mirrior is when driving at night, all of the cars behind you have their headlights pointing at your mirror. My dash mirror is mounted normally and it is turned so that I can see the right rear of a car which is passing me, it's image is in the left side of the mirror. Now, the side mirror is set so that I can see that cars right front fender at the same time. By the time the car leaves the side mirror it is in my perferial vision and I can also hear it. As for the right side of the Cobra - TURN YOUR HEAD ! When you drive any car you should have situational awareness and never be surprised by a car on either side of you. If you plan to track your Cobra regularly then look and find out what the other Cobra owners are using. Oh yes, no matter where you end up putting the mirrors they will vibrate. Good luck. PS. From reading these posts it seems that some owners are not aware that the little screw on the end of the side mirror can be loosened and the mirror adjusted.
