Now that I know there are women on here, I'll have to start holding in my gut while I post!

Hey Ron, I just got home from a great car show in Laughlin , Nev. We drove about 125 miles in the Cobra round trip. The temp. outside ( air temp.) was about 112 degrees coming back to Havasu City. My wife just about expired from the heat....but the trip was outstanding...cranking along about 85 mph ...wind...lookin out for cops..burnin up a lots of gas..blastin by everyone and feelin like I'm 25 years old. How cool is this car!

Go have fun in anything....get another a Cobra.
Bill..Oh ya! I'm on my second beer..thinkin about another

Excaliber 09-26-2009 06:08 PM

...used to be about the people and the cars, but for me it's become more about the car. I'm not a Republican. 95% of Cobra owners are Republicans, there in lays the problem. Being type A kind of people to many owers are out spoken, negative, in your face and back stabbers if you don't agree with their chosen political religion. Simply put, thats not the kind of people I want to be friends with or hang with.

But I like my car, am glad to help my friends when I can with theirs. We don't talk politics at car shows, not the folks I hang with. They know better, they have a fundamental respect for other peoples views, even if we don't agree. To often, that is not the case here. Which is why my signature line remains "non member".

That's a goal I'm striving for.:)

Excaliber 09-26-2009 06:34 PM

In the last two days or so I have personally been attacked based SOLELY on the fact that my views differ from the majority here.

And I'm not talking about the LOUNGE either! This morning it was a member from, you'd never guess, Texas (what else is new). In a thread right on the main page. That thread ended up being deleted by the mod in it's entirety, as well it should have been.

Now I expect some heavy flack in the Lounge, I enter at my own risk, but what is it with these people that just CAN'T stop with the personal attacks? Are you guys SO insecure in your own beliefs you are compelled to fight anyone that doesn't see it your way? Happened again in the Lounge this morning, personal unwarranted attack against me for simply stating my opinion. And you guys love to talk about Freedom of Speech, you have no clue what it means.

patrickt 09-26-2009 06:43 PM

Dang, I would have liked to have read that. I love a good ambush.

RodKnock 09-26-2009 06:55 PM

Ernie, we love you, man. Is it time for our group hug?

It's funny, on our runs, such as this morning, politics and social issues are never discussed. All we talked about was THE CARS.

I miss all the attacks, probably because I ignore the thread title, but for some reason I always seem to read Evan's posts here, once a month or so, and tell us that he and SAI are being picked on.

tcrist 09-26-2009 07:08 PM

Ernie,
I'd like to see where you got the facts that 95% of all Cobra owners are Republicans. It doesent really matter, just would like to see where you got it from.

I also do not understand the idea/need for different parties at all. Why can't people just vote for who they personally think will do the best job? Do you vote just exactly what your party says to vote for? If you do, why? Why cant you vote what you think is best for your country, state, county, city or what-ever. If you do vote foe who/what-ever you want, why do you say that you are one party or the other.

Again, I am not trying to give you sh!t about anything. I am just trying to understand the principals of the differences and why there needs to be different parties at all.

Terry

Excaliber 09-26-2009 07:18 PM

By the way, I didn't say if I was a Demo a Liberal a Moderate or whatever. Those are the labels one gets hung around his neck, good or bad. Actually, I'm an independant. I THINK about an issue, come to a conclusion and if it agrees with one party or another, I'm OK with that.

Just a gut feeling that 95% of those that hang in the LOUNGE are Republicans. You can count on the fingers of one hand those that have opposing views, and they are pummeld without mercy. It really crosses a line when they bring that loud mouth in your face attitude into the MAIN pages. NO POLITICS should be allowed, period, on the main forums. Or, at a car show, gathering of a Cobra clan, etc. Time and place.

tcrist 09-26-2009 07:24 PM

Sounds good Ernie.
I am an independant my-self and I vote what seems correct to me no matter what party it goes to. Sometimes it is voting for the lesser of two evils.

Discussing politics is a loose-loose situation.

Have a good weekend to all.

Terry

Dangerous Doug 09-26-2009 08:10 PM

I hear you, Ernie (or should I say, "Slick"?). I am certainly not a Republican, but I don't care to wear any other labels ("Democrat", "Liberal") because I think through issues independently and draw my own conclusions.

I weighed in on a couple of threads where people were whining about paying tickets and blaming the police for issuing the tickets. The response was odd. The police were the "bad guys" and somehow, their aberrant behavior was tied to the Obama Administration and raising taxes, if I recall correctly. (Huh?) I found myself PM'ing another member, "What's wrong with these guys?" and he was equally bewildered.

Well, whatever. Anyhow, Ernie, you're not alone. Another "Independent".

REAL 1 09-26-2009 08:16 PM

What Ernie has posted is and has been a historical problem on this site i.e. personal attacks that are sometimes vicious.

Silverback: When you have been around this site as long as I have (2001) and have experienced the personal attacks over the years for staking out a postion that others here don't care for even when your position is based on fact and even back up by SAAC the motivation for the personal attacks begin to rise to surface and expose themselves.

When you have been around this site as long as me and seen what I have then you can come back and comment. Frankly you have no clue as evidenced by your post. So its not about me presuming anything...its about my experience over the years here. Period.

There are some decent guys here. There are some here that aren't very nice that are motivated by envy or other issues to launch personal attacks. I've also been around long enough that I can usually tell light hearted teasing from vicious attacks.

My position stands and is actually backed up in black and white. Just research the thousands of posts dealing with the Continuation series. Yes there have been other threads provoking controversy but none have been brought out the bile of those here that don't own Shelbys like that subject.

I could be a plumber and my observations would be same and so would my position.

It also seems that the person who started this thread sees the same thing I have seen over the years and that other "veteran" members such as me have seen. I don't like conflict but I won't shy away from an argument either when I see the facts are being distorted or statements made that are demeaning pertaining to a particular subject that is of interest to me i.e the Continuation Shelby Cobras.

Thats how I see it.

Takes care.

Evan, you're a broken record. You literally post on one subject and one subject only.

It seems to me that the CC is many things to many people. I for one enjoy learning and sharing knowledge and experiences based on Cobra's. Attacks or statements that some take too personal are frequently found on the lounge and are part of that horse.
If one is offended, doesn't like to get involved, doesn't like politics and doesn't like to compete...well avoid the Lounge.
I never really cared that much about what was going on in our country when I was working a million hours a week and raising my family. Now that I'm an old guy and enjoy history, love our country and respect our constitiution, the Lounge is a good place to talk about these things.
Most importantly the CC is about our mutual love for these funny little cars.

Lighten up you guys, have fun..life is too short.
Bill

A "broken" record generally won't play anything at all. It's a "stuck" record that continually plays the same track, thus forcing you to push the needle over a bit creating the "scraaattccchhhh" sound that we are all so fond of. Just another common misconception that bore correcting -- you know, like continuation Cobras being real.;)

Hotfingrs 09-27-2009 06:51 AM

That record has soooooo many scratches in it that it's time to buy a new one. So even though I buy the same record, years later, is it an original record, or a continuation record. Same thing for books, how many people bust their butts to find a second printing of a book.....Now enjoy the rest of Sunday.
