It may sell for $65K, but I will tell you that for that price range, I just may have to buy it. :) ;) |

Also, clearly I'm not dumb, I would trade my car for a BRAND NEW FERRARI or even a 2006 FORD GT. :D But seriously, Patrick is correct, but fortunately, at least at the moment, neither one of us needs the cash. Knock on wood. |

Hi Guys,
CSX4208 for sale here on Club Cobra $135K. Also Aluminum body posted May 2009, I do not know if it has sold. Not affiliated in any way, I agree with Rodknock that this one will sell well above what any of the Fibreglass cars have sold for. Two points off the curve were the CSX fibreglass cars sold by Becker in the low $60k's in Monterey at no reserve auctions. He did it to get the press/attention/advertising value, at least that is what he claimed. Tony R. |

Good info!! Billboards have slight cracking take off $1,000, one side pipe has small dent and side pipe paint is not continuous, I guess the new owner can get another can of oven paint. Body is so filthy I cannot tell how many scratches are actually there, maybe none, but what I dont know I assume. Engine leaking oil and if it only has 500 miles it was the hardest 500 miles but possilbe and that is what the odometer said. I would not give 1 penny over $65K. I would rather spend $80K and know exactly what I have with a documented engine build. This engine may have a documented build but I never saw any paperwork and it was not offered. The block was supplied by SA and the owner supplied heads and bolts? The only thing that impressed me was the aluminium body, (my wife thought it was scratched, I told her that is a brushed finish LOL) I loved and was memorized by the body and the craftsmanship other than that the car was not a standout to me so the only thing that can make it a standout is a low price. The heads were painted blue, I guess they were aluminium. You forgot to mention in your price you are getting a NEW car, this was a 2005 build. Buddy noticed slight rust marks on the windsheild upright. Like I said for mid 60's you cant go wrong above that is diminishing value. Sheet if you cannot clean a car up to show how much do you want sell or just passify somone else wanting you to sell??

Once again I am not a professional car appraisel or certified mechanic. My opinion is for entertainment purposes only. I am not bidding on this car. I looked at the car yesterday and for all I know it is fully polished today and in pristine condition.
|
FE's have a reputation for leaking, so that, in it of itself, shouldn't be a deal breaker for someone out there. Is the block an aluminum CSX block? If so, the early CSX blocks did have problems, which by the drilling of a hole, can be repaired.
First hand knowledge is always better than armchair quarterbacking from CA. That's for sure. Of course, maybe you're "sandbagging" everyone that you can buy it cheaper. ;) (just kidding around). |
It did not appear to be an aluminium block, once again I am not a professional car person or mechanic. I am not buying or bidding on the car, I made an offer yesterday and it was rejected. I know the cash in my bank account will not loose value except for inflation, LOL!!! I am cheap and only buy things I can make money on so my opinion probably is out of line on value.

They don't have to leak, FE's, but I concur that many do. Something that still leaves me baffled, it ISN'T a given. Mine doesn't leak, and I'm not some hot shot mechanic OR someone who got lucky. I just took extaordinary care with all the sealing surfaces and took nothing for granted. Did extensive research right here on Club Cobra to be aware of what to look for.
Recently attended a car show, newly converted GT-500 Eleanor fastback there. Brand new Genesis block, alloy heads, polished everything, dual fours, awesome! $30,000 for the motor alone. Couldn't drive it, trailored in, bottom of the bell housing covered in oil... WHAT is UP with THAT???? 30K and it leaks oil? Unacceptable, but yeah, all to dang common. |
Using 57K (chassis) +10K (brushed finish) + 2K (gas tank) + .5K (tires) + 15.4K (SA 427 side oiler) + $3.5K trans and misc = $88.4K
So for a new build less labor, owner installed himself he appears to have about $88.4K into car unless I am missing something. Wow!!! Once you put pen and paper to it RodKnock is right. It just does not look like a $90K car. I still would not go more than $65K but it is definelty worth more than that, probably $75K?. From what I saw some sell for on cobra country individuals must loose upwards of $25K to 35K when they sell these things. |

Also, those additional parts like the oil puke tank, coolant recovery, and other Kirkham options (powdercoated bulkhead, wheelwell foam, Halon system, adjustable seat tracks, etc.) probably add another 2-3 thousand. Further, the dual quad setup is probably worth a couple grand, if done right.
I'm curious what block was used for the build. Certainly not a very good ad or detailing the car for sale. |
He indicated a 1974 or 1972, didnt sound for sure or at least that is what i thought he said. The car was not detailed to sale in my opinion. But hat soff to kirkham they make a beautiful body.

I asked the seller some questions and the response gave me the feeling that there would be some shill bidding. It looks like one or two shill bidders to me, but you never know. The seller had a low reserve that was met quickly and then at about $56,000, with only less than a day to go, he decided he didn't want to sell it "too cheap." |
Henry and Rodnock caught on the quickest. You both nailed it, congratulations you now know the minimium it will take. I think that is squirley if the reserve is met then it should sale to the highest bidder.

On the topic of the value of the original CSX posted, keep in mind that a brand new painted alloy CSX4000 from Shelby is almost 100k. And that's just a ROLLER.

Steering back to the Kirkham for a moment, if you look closely in one of the pics, as I finally did, which shows the passenger side of the car, you'll see a reasonably-sized oil leak sitting on the ground where parked.
FWIW, the seller said his Southern Automotive receipt shows a 1968 standard bore side oiler block. I don't think it will be going any higher than $75K, so the "winning bidder" seems to have gotten a decent deal for a Kirkham. For my $75K, I'd take Sal's CSX4241. |
