Default Bad day for a Mustang

Watch the slideshow. These series of pictures were taking last year at a track I race at. Surprisingly both driver and passenger walked away without any reported injuries.
Notice the bottom of the roll cage poking through the botton of the floor pan after the car ended up on its' roof

It's hard to believe they walked away from that. They were very lucky.

Main hoop punched right through the floor on both sides huh. We typically holesaw holes under the cage, drop it down through them, weld all the tops of braces and here's the key part, then we lift it back into place and put 1/8" plates under the bottom and weld them to the floor and cage.

I bet there are some Tech Inspectors that are getting another schooling on what to pass in the safety tech! Looks like a car I saw once that had a roll cage made by the local "muffler shop"! That is one seriously lucky guy! Not only did his roll cage NOT work but for what ever reason the tire barricade failed too! I think the driver of this car and Jack Roush should take heed in light of their resent events... Both are damn lucky!

Passenger?
Yes, there was a passenger. This car was not actually racing. He was doing "High Speed Touring". Kind of like track day for street cars. They do HST in between actual races.
I race a Legends car and sometimes I instruct at Hallett. It's a pretty technical road course, 1.8 miles per lap.
This driver obviously got in over his head with too much power.
Rarely do we see many acidents in HST but when we do, it's usually with high powered cars in the hands of inexperienced drivers.
WARNING TO NEW COBRA DRIVERS ON THE TRACK. Learn the racing line before going fast! We had a girl with a 6 month old Viper wreck her car last year. The more power you have, the quicker you can get into trouble.
Instructors are always more nervous riding shot gun in a high powered car with a newby.

Like the wording on the bumper: "Look Better. Go Faster"
