Default Leadfoot 2015

Hi all,

Earlier this month I did an event called 'The Leadfoot Festival'. This is my second time, the last a couple of years ago (see http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums...festival-2013/ for last times event and the Leadfoot website http://www.leadfootfestival.com/leadfoot-festival/).

The Leadfoot Festival is held in the beautiful area called the Coromandel in New Zealand - in Rod Millen's back garden.

Rod Millen is famous for his rally driving and in particular records at Pikes Peak.

The event is designed to be an unusual mixture of famous drivers, unusual or unique race cars, and the public have lots of access to look at it all.

Below are some photos of the event I have come across:

This one is of Rod Millen's Pikes Peak car, the ultimate winner of the event:

This year included some drifter entrants, including 'Mad Mike'

Most of the quickest outright vehicles are 4WD modern vehicles, the local NZ rally champion Richard Mason below was third overall

The Cobra was a popular entrant, had lots of people come an look, and the old beast did well up the hill

One of the best things about the event is the variety of the vehicles entered.

Second place was a go-kart

Those are great pictures and that looks like it would be a fun event to run in. That go cart was impressive. Thanks for posting them

Thanks. The event is awesome, I felt very privileged to be invited to run.

The course is very demanding, tight and twisty, lots of humps and jumps, cambered corners and steep inclines, all in a mile up a road designed by Rod from his favorite corners from events he has been in.

The fun comes from the relaxed atmosphere, lots of cool things to look and nice people to talk to.

That would be a blast. You have a great looking car and those are some awesome action shots of it. Amazing how fast those carts can be...

Great pictures, thanks for posting.
I just spent 6 weeks in the Coromandel area, I was bummed we could not stay and catch this event. (fishing was great)
In my younger days we used to ride our motor bikes through Thames up to Coromandel, over to Whitianga down to Whangamata, Paeroa, such a great ride and always some thing to keep your adrenalin pumping.
Where there any of the old thunder saloon cars running?

Bevan,

Good stuff, your car looks brilliant. A friend of mine raced a Harley XR1200 Turbo, you may have noticed it..

The Coromandel area is beautiful, well worth a holiday for anyone.

The only old thunder saloon was the replica of the Custaxie, but some cool other muscle cars and so forth.

Thanks Ant, the old girl is still going strong!

I did see the Harley, he was pretty quick. Not so many bikes this time around, missed seeing them, but meant we had more runs.

Bevan,

Nice one, that is impressive the sheer speed and getting the induction and engine noise - sounds great..
