I had the great luck of having some interactions with DSG over the years, my first at Indy qualifying in 1969 and the last in April of 2017 just before his family presented him with a Shelby 289 "Dan Gurney" replica. I had the great honor of being involved with the development of the Gurney replica via Ross Henry, who is the driving force behind the Superformance and Shelby 289 cars. Two interactions 48 years apart...gee, 48, that number seems familiar!
Dan sent me a very nice thank you photo in addition to resigning a photo he signed in 1969 that I took of him at the 1968 Watkins Glen US Grand Prix. I also received a very nice communication from Evi, just more proof of what class people Dan and his family are.
This is Ross meeting with Dan last April just before he was presented with his 289. That famous smile is very evident. And under that towel is Dan's revolutionary engine project.
Sir, you will be missed............
