I agree with you, I was pissed on Sunday, but you have to look at it from Ferrari's side. It is legal to do this and if you spend over $300 million a year, you will do whatever it take to win the championship . I feel sorry for Barichelo, but when he signed his contract, he agreed to these situations.

F-1 driver could drive a stock-car with great proficiency. Some have--like Jackie Stewart, Mario Andretti, Phil Hill, to name a few. How many Junior Johnsons, etc., would look good in an F-1---let alone one that was moving at speed through the streets of, let's say Monaco---or the old Nurburgring? Remember the pix of Stewart, Hill, etc. in FLIGHT at the 'Ring?

Here's to F-1 AND Nascar--may they never meet. Wait a minute---let's pit an F-1 Ferrari against the Viagra Nascar at the next R & G. Let's see if I can remember the NASCAR mantra---h-m-0m-m-m. Oh yeah---TURN LEFTURNLEFTURNLEFTURNLEFTTURNLEFT.

I know I know. Unfortunately I have this stupid addiction to buying any car related DVD. I generally view them as entertainment so I don't get too upset. Among my other award winning DVD's are The Hollywood Knights. (Horrible) Fast and Furious (Thought I was going to die of embarrassment in the first 15 minutes with the guy screaming that he needed NOS) and the original Gone in 60 seconds. (No plot just lots of cars crashing.) Hollywood needs to come out with a really good car movie... Something with 60's muscle cars...

Hey McCrank, you're absolutely correct. The Austrian GP is a classic example of a "fixed" result, which no self-respecting race series would entertain. I mean, hell, that would be like Richard Petty winning his 200th race on the 4th of July long after he was washed up (ooops), or Dale Jr. winning at the track where his dad was killed, at the next race held there (ooops).:3DSMILE:

NASCAR would never entertain such race-fixing. It would be like giving the slow makes an aero advantage for the next race, in order to appease a manufacturer who was sinking big bucks in the series (oops). I mean, jeez, it would be like allowing a manufacturer to race a body style that didn't even exist, just to get them to participate (oops).

I'm a NASCAR fan, I really am. I am a Formula One fan, as well. Can't help it, I've been for 25 years and I'm too old to kick the habit now. Besides, when I hear one of those hyperactive mosquitoes circulating a track (like the several late-model F1 cars that invariably turn up for the vintage races at Elkhart), it makes my blood boil just as much as a well-tuned small-block Ford.

I am also a Ferrari F1 fan, have been since I was a kid and first got to see Gilles Villenueve (dead 20 years last week, BTW) sliding his 312T4 sideways.

That being said, I cannot escape the bad taste that last weekend's race left in my mouth. There is no rule against it that I am aware of, and I know they invest megabucks to win championships, but jeez, M. Schumacher and the F2002 have no competition this year, none, and it's not like the four points are going to make a difference this season. I think Ferrari should voluntarily reverse the first two finishing positions and give Rubens Barrichello his well-deserved win.

Oh yeah, and I have an oil painting of that happening, if anyone is interested in trading it for a late-model NASCAR stocker...:3DSMILE:

"Silly" NASCAR-bashing, etc. I guess assailing the manhood of F-1 drivers is objective, eh? Ar-arar-ar. I guess it depends on whose ox is getting gored. To each his own, I guess. My view of the "Turn-Left" crowd is shared by quite a few people anyway.

Fred ,I don't understand this love of F1 or the adoration for their drivers. All professional race drivers are better than any of us on the track. Why the knock at Nascar. Interesting that most of the Cobra replica owners on this forum have cars more closely related to Nascar stockers that any F1 or Cart or IRL car. Anybody have a 15,000 rpm redline? Anybody have traction comtrol? Anybody have built in air jacks? Anybody have an engineer monitoring a computer system while out for a drive?
And when was the last time a F1 driver accepted an invitation to compete in the IROC series?
Bash Nascar all you want but F1 will always be BORING.

I have a hard enough time listening to the commentators trying to convince the viewers what a great race they are watching. After 2 laps"well It looks like Michael is about to lap the last place car"After 10 laps"well he's got the third place driver in his sights, I guess he's about to overtake him in a lap or two" etc,etc,etc,

With a sophisticated syspension like that perhaps you could convince Michael Schumacher to race against a FFR in a Match race. Give him 600hp and the FFR 300 and maybe he would like the odds.

I agree that the results were fixed. They were fixed in a obvious way that really did not sit well with the fans etc.

However, this sort of thing is normal. F1 is a business. Not a sport. We all need to remember that.

All big league racing is a business.

As the team manager, you are required by sponsor contracts to produce the best possible results, PERIOD!!!!!!!!! If you do not, you are replaced.

A world championship means really big exposure in the rest of the world. (The USA does not count in the F1 marketing world at this time)

This means big sales of Marlboro and Fiat cars everywhere but here.

Fiat is in deep Sh$t at this time market share wise ROW. The F1 championship is worth it's weight in gold to them. It sells cars!!!!!!

Marlboro has been kicked in the face in the US and needs to increase sales ROW to survive. They are after all a US company.

They dictate the way things work more than one would think. And they certainly demand results from a race win and championship standpoint. (I know these truths, I was in the business and have signed some of these contracts myself. You do not perform, you do not eat.)

What everyone must understand, is that this is business, it is not a pure sport on any level other than the engineering level. Everything after that is a business decision.

What we all experienced this past Sunday may well put a bad taste in our mouths, but it is the reality of corporate sponsorship and marketing.

You know, win on Sunday, sell on Monday.

This applies to any major race series and for that matter any major sport period.

It is just a matter of presentation. Ferrari just presented it badly.
