What does AP mean on racing cars

Can anyone tell me what AP & BP on the side of racing cars means. I have not seen this on cars here in Europe.

They represent different divisions within the SCCA racing body. A - Prepared, B- Prepared, etc. Different rules apply to each division to try to equalize or set limits to modifications. Merry Christmas!

If you're talking about the older Cobra pics it means "A" Production and refers to the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) production racing classes. (A = Large displacement versus B, C, D etc.) As a production class there are also limits as to allowable modifications, homologation rules etc. (Do a Google search on SCCA & Production and you will get the straight story.)
