Default Open Track/ Driving Schools for nubies

If you are a first timer weather you are 19 or 60 these are some of the things you can expect.

First off forget the car show stuff you might be used to. Your car does not have to be car show perfect but it does have to be race track safe.

Clean out the trunk, remove floor mats if they are not fastened down. Keep your radio turned off, your instructor will be scared enough and he doesn't want to scream over your radio when he is yelling(coaching ) at you.
Do everything your car inspection form requires.

Now for going out on the track. Forget everthing you have read on the internet about Cobras being the fastest cars at the track, leave that for the experienced guys to try and prove.

If you have a fairly low HP Cobra you can and will have a good time. Just ask the FFR Spec. racers.

Do not get pissed when the Miata or VW pass you going into a corner, They are probably more experienced than you are.

If you have a high HP Cobra and no track experience, you are the one most likely to get into trouble if you don't listen to your instructor.

At almost every Cobra event I have been to somebody with no or little experience has somehow managed to make a big impression on the spectators. You don't wan't to be that guy. I know I have been that guy. ( can be very expensive)

If you have the desire to Open Track, don't let the nay sayers talk you out of it. You already know it is dangerous and probably have accepted that.

Find an event in your area and talk to others who have done it and sign up for the best time you will ever have in your Cobra.

Oh yea, I know this is old but worth repeating. Don't try to impress your instructor because you can't, and don't try to scare him because he already is.

Have fun,

Cranky
