While congrats to Earnhardt, remember Tony has helped him a ton in the past. As for being a crybaby, I guess you dont' listen to the scanners much. Tony was the most colorful person on the circuit until he started watching what he said. He's the most talented and most well rounded racer out there-period. The only other person that has more titles in different forms is Andretti. Watch out for the Tiger---big fan here. Jr. has all the fans he needs. I like him but there are way too many bandwagon fans. Been following both Tony and Jr. since 2000.

		Bruce,
Actually the greatest Nascar driver to date is named David Pearson. Some of the nubies don't remember what he did or don't care to know. He rarely drove the full schedule but he did manage to beat Richard Petty more times than Petty beat him.
You don't have to look it up cause I already did.
Been a Nascar fan since 1955 when I saw my first race at Langhorne PA.

No nubie here.

		Cranky,
I love NASCAR, but this restrictor plate crap is just getting ridiculous. It's only a matter of time before someone else gets killed. Yes, I know...accidents happen at any track and people get killed at slower tracks. But putting the cars in a pack like that where they can't get out of each others' way is just plain nuts. The drivers talk about "when" the big one is going to happen, as if they fully expect it and accept it. Thankfully Waltrip wasn't hurt today, but next time....

I don't know what the answer is, but this ain't it.

so racerX when you started being a fan, I guess you weren't a 'nubie' then? All the ole school fans need to understand that life rolls on. BTW, I grew up Fla., not too far from Daytona. Watched Earnhardt finally win the 500. Not a newbie either. Pearson was the real deal. The only reason Petty won so much is because they would race 3x a week. Gordon will pass Earnhardt for career wins, mark my words. Not sure if 105 (pearson's record) is attainable. As for the best racer ever..not sure I agree with the Earnhardt statement....asterisk on the 'stock car' racer. As for the 24hours--> he was on the best funded team. Schumacher is certainly among the greatest ever. Tony is still the most well rounded except for Andretti. nuff said.

Cranky, that was nice to mention my hero, the silver fox. My Dad used to get Purolator pit passes (remember when you could actually walk in the pits and talk to the drivers) for the Long Pond race each summer. Saw Pearson winding down his career, but I sure did like that car, BTW, I think that's the first time I have heard you mention Ford's in a positive light.

We used to get the priviledge pit passes at Ontario when it was open. Camp out in the infield all weekend. The priveledge passes allowed us to stay in the pit and garage area even during the race. Got to shake hands and get autographs of Richard Petty, Dale and Darryll Waltrip all on one day.

		kanuck,
Amen. My wife and I were saying the same thing. If Biffle had to drop back, the 38 should have been allowed to slide down to pole, then everyone else takes their respective places. I don't think it really had much effect on this race anyway, but still doesn't make sense.

I can't tell you why it's done this way but I can tell you it's been done this way for a very long time. Any car drops out (whether on the pole or mid-pack) the following cars in that row move up.

		To all,
Nascar rules state that if a car is unable to start in the qualifying position then the next car in line simply moves up... IE postion 3 moves up to #1 and so on back... I Don't agree but thats the rule...

Cranky,

You still using that Pearson-Petty thing I won a beer on a few years ago??? Out of the 63 races that the Pearson-Petty combo finished 1st-2nd, Pearson won 32, Petty won 31... Go 21!!!
