Club Cranky going to Elkhart Lake
The misfits from the East have finally committed to make the long tow to Elkhart Lake WI for the three day Open track and time trials event with the Northwoods Shelby Club this August.
We will be bringing our fastest Cobra driver and also a couple of fast Mustangs but unfortunately our famous BB FE owner and driver will not be driving the Infamous FEz mobile as the car now has a new home in the South. Not sure what he will be driving if he makes the trip but if he does you know he will be fast.
Any other Club Cobra guys going to Elkhart Lake???

Must be either the 13-15th or the 27-29th? I'm not interested in (or capable of) taking my car on the track, but might like to attend as a spectator. Can you explain more about the event?
Thanks,
Lowell

The Nortwoods event is an "all Ford" powered-only event and involves hogh speed track "touring" as well as a high speed autocross on Saturday. The traditional date is the weekend after Labor Day in September. However, this year's event is held on August 27-29th.
http://www.nwshelbyclub.com/
You can enter the pits with your car for free. Just touring the massive and scenic infield is worth the drive in itself.
If you can make it, you must!

Hotels/Motels????
Jay,
We need reccomendations for a good hotel/motel, fairly close to the track and not too expensive.

Great to here you are going to make the Trek to Road America and looking forward to meeting you and all the other Crankoids.
I have left a message with a couple of our Northern buddies and they will be getting in touch with Jay or myself so we can e-mail or post the hotels/motels in the area. This should be fun a real Fun Ford Weekend.

Clois,
You guys gotta hook us up with a place to stay! We're coming and you better be ready.
We're bringing a couple of ringers, a couple of drunkards and a couple of Ho's.
Where's Scott Coyle???
He's been bugging us to come out there, so now we agree to the 2 day drive and not so much as a whoopee from him!
Still no word if the Gasholes will be joining us.

Scared.
Simply because who you may bring with you.
Otherwise, we are fearless. Sometimes..
TURK
Also we have cars under construction, some not even in our possession. If we came, we would have to come by Greyhound.

Hey,
I used to live about an hour from Elkhart Lake and saw my first cobra on a track when the northeast cobra club was there about two years ago. When I started my cobra I said I would never race it, but after going to the track and talking to the folks there, I did an about face. By the way, the folks there with cobras were just great to talk to. Tremendous ambassadors for this hobby. Made time to talk, told stories about thier build and gave me a beer. Does it get better than that?
For job reasons, I relocated to Maine. I often wondered if I would ever find time to go back and run around the track there. My car is done except for wiring and interior. It damned well will be done by August. What would it take to "tag along"? MY wife would love to see her friends in Wisconsin and I would love to finally get on that track. It would be nice to meet some of the folks I have been getting help from along the way.
How about it, need any company for the trip?

Turk,
Check the Hoosier catalog, they may actually make a speed rated race radial for a bus.
Wayne,
It looks like it will be a two day tow for us and most of us have regular cab pickups, so we're limited on space.
If you're talking about bringing your own car and rig...THE MORE, THE MERRIER! We haven't made reservations yet cuz we still don't know the motels out there.
As the date gets closer, we can determine a meeting point if you like.
Stay current...our complete race schedule is updated regularly at:

- then click on Race Events.

Wayne,
It would be great to meet you and you wife as well. You can park at the top of the hill with several of the other Cobras. My wife comes and usually spends a day at the track (maybe two) and then goes running around with Lew Paynes wife and others. She had a great time last year. Beautiful country and excellent facilities as well as the people.

I was there with my Cobra in 1999 for this event. It is a blast, for those that have not been to this track, you are in for a treat.
Drove it this summer in another "lesser" car and you can't get enough of Road America. Bring your appetite, the food is great.
My '64 Corvette won June Sprints there in '67 & '68.

Everyone,
Thanks for the opportunity to come along. I would really love it. I plan to trailer my car and hopefully get a little time on the track. My wife would be along too, I am still not sure if she appreciates this hobby, or just likes to see me this happy, but she wouldn't miss it if I went. As the date gets closer I will Email you folks. Thanks again

Wayne,
If you plan on going, you should a) join the Northwoods Club and b) send in your registration... about 3 months ahead of time.
We can let you know the details about travle and lodging as the date gets closer.
