Default "locked out" advance timing?

I have a question about locking out the advance in my dizzy. My engine builder, who I have a lot of respect for, has locked out my advance in my MSD dizzy. What that means is that I have no advance in the dizzy. The timing is set at 36 deg. at intial and WOT. It seems to run nice in the garage(haven't driven it yet). I am running a 7.5 in carbon fiber triple disk clutch with tilton ultra light flywheel and starter. It turns the motor over with very little effort. Are there side effects of locking out your advance? I know this is done on race cars a lot. I was looking for some pro's and con's.

We've been running our ignitions this way since 1978..... it's a good way to go because you don't have any fluctuations or movement in the timing....

If the motor is hard to start ....then go with a Start Retard box from MSD.... that is what we are using.....

We run 36*degrees with a 25*degree retart up to about 1200 rpm's then 36*degrees

Thanks Morris, I appreciate your input. As you know I have been following your thread on gasholes and you clearly know what you are doing! My engine builder agrees with you. I am going to leave it alone and just drive it.

I have another question for you. I am running a Quartermaster Pro 7.25 triple disk button clutch. Is that going to cause problems? About half of my miles are on the track and that is where I really want the car to perform but I don't want to replace my clutch every couple 100 miles because of some street use. Any comments?

That is a great clutch and is very good for the track.....

As far as the street goes..... just learn to let it out and go..... no slipping of the clutch..... just go.....

And it will be fine..... The 7.25" clutch was the standard for years in many race cars and was the only one that could hold the HP....... just doesn't like to be slipped....

I have a question along these lines. The vacuum assembly is still attached to the front of my distributor although no hose is connected. I'm sure for the same reason as you suggested while running the MSD box.
Can I remove that vacuum diaphragm assembly to make a little more room? If that's the case, will a simple plate be enough to keep out the dirt? Or will there be some other linkage attached, going into the distributor?
NEVER MIND, I took it apart and got my answer.
By the way, Morris, I also follow your build on the Gasholes.com quite often.
