First we have to find center this is how I do it and what the measurements are for the A&C body. All the measurements are from the pass side for the most part.

I use points not blocks its easier to make the tape strait when laying it next to the edge of the marks.

I sprayed the dark blue yesterday and I like to wait over night to unmask so the base is good and dry and don't contaminate the silver. I use tape to lift any lose edges as you can see from the photos. There will be a jagged edge from untapeing and you want to make sure you get all the lose base that didn't stay on the tape when you unmasked it. Any lose base will stain a silver and you will miss it untill it cleareds and then there is nothing you can do about it, so I do the tape trick a few times. Another reason I like to sleep on it before I clear it is so I can look it over with a fresh pair of eyes and do any repairs it may need, I found one little spot on the hood that I was just not sure would hide when cleared so a few minute repair and I was ready to go. I like to put the paint codes under the clear so they stay with the car. I put them under the tail light just incase someone ever has to do any repairs. I hope you enjoyed and I hope I helped in some way its a ton of work to do a job like this and do it right.

Where's the taper man? You gotta pull the stripes in at the bottoms to give the car a proper perspective.

I don't know...

Something's not right...

That's the visual he needed. Center gap is too small and the stripes look to taper OUT instead of IN. Thanks for the lesson but make sure you are using the proper handbook.

It just doesn't seem to "please the eye," at least to me. But it really doesn't matter; if the customer is happy with it, then it's perfect.

eddytheb 01-30-2010 04:24 PM

There replicas guys, there's almost nothing right or wrong when building a cobra these days, hell most originals never even had stripes. You can make yours any way you want by adjusting what I have shared here, by making them wider narrower or leaving the small side stripe off its a personal choice. I like them wider on dark colored cars a little narrower on a light colored car with dark stripes.

Well I tend to agree with that. Did the customer request "wider" stripes?

rcobrakit67 01-30-2010 04:38 PM

Once again great work. Thanks for sharing.

eddytheb 01-30-2010 04:46 PM

They have a choice when I build for them anything they want that's the nice thing about building over a turnkey minus. With allot of the cars out there you get what the company offers and that's it.

Cashburn 01-30-2010 04:47 PM

Hey, my preference is no stripes.... but do you have any photos of cars you have tapered the stripes in on? For comparison sake. I think you will find it complements the shape of the Cobra much more.

That's not true at all, you can order anything you want from BDR, SPF, etc... you've done a lot of these so you must have had customers ask for the stripes like the "originals" right?

eddytheb 01-30-2010 05:03 PM

like the "originals" right?
what are the originals like and is it documented anywere.

If someone asks for original all I can say to them is show me a photo of the original you are trying to replicate
there was so many ways it was done its almost impossible to find photos of two that were the same.
