I don't know how to refer to it without the name, but I like the dynamat products. I specifically used the dynamat extreme matting. I found it easy to work with and very little heat or engine noise (besides the obvious roar of the pipes) comes though. Hope that helps.

Default Insulation does nothing.

No need for any insulation, it is not the floor/firewall , it's the air all around... wear ear plugs for the noise of the wind, like a vacuum, and the low bass sound of the sides pipes... the heat of the exhaust pipes is all around the car, you fell like you are on a frying pan, that heat feels like radiation from an oven, on your face and neck... it is really a terrifying experience to ride on a cobra, the passenger side has a handle called "panic handle"... insulation?
