Default a&c resale

a&c says in their brochure that some people have built their cars and sold them for a profit. It sounds like a fun way to make a few extra dollars, has anyone done this?

Take a look at the Cobras for sale section on this website, you will see some really nice cars for sale and maybe two of them might be listed at a dollar value over what the owner has invested.
These cars for most are a work of personal accomplishment and driving/ownership pleasure, if you want to build for strictly resale you more than likely will break even or lose money, especially if you factor in your build time as a "billable" factor.
For instance you might see a Superformance with a side oiler in it selling for around fifty K, consider the cost of the car, add the cost of the engine and drive train and you realize that car is probably listed 14-18% below investment value...I wouldn't build as a means to make money because you would have a very hard time recovering your overall investment.
99% of the owners are hobbyists/racers/ enthusiasts...investment for a profitable return in a replica Cobra is going to "perform" at a loss...IMHO.

.....He who buildeth thine own Cobra, shall loseth thee most.

Take it from me, the hidden costs will get you, unless you do it all yourself, paint included, chances are you will be in the red. Most builders do it for the experience, not to make money.

And McMahon knows.......It took him 18 years to build his Contemporary......must have been that sheep interfering.....

Seriously folks, If I ever decided to sell my A&C I don't think I could get what I put into it, let alone a profit. Maybe there's some hayseed out there but they are few and far between.

Love ya John,
Roscoe

Gee whiz Roscoe and John, you guys are tuff on one another (I started to use hard on one another but I thought better of it). In all seriousness these guys know what they are talking about. The Cobra market is somewhat soft right now and if you are intending to make a profit you better have the molds and some frames setting around that someone gave you.

There may have been a time when you could push a product out the door that resembled a Cobra but I believe those days are gone.
