Default Manifold on 351w in A&C

What manifold are guys using on your 351w. I was thinking of using the Edelbrock Air Gap . I was concerned with the hood scoop clearance.

Victor JR, and it will hit the hood if I don't use the Roush oval air cleaner that fits inside the scoop. Using a standard round air cleanr does not fit well.

Edelbrock Performer or RPM will fit fine. I use the old Hellings and Stellings air cleaner. Not much more room under there.

I took some measurements and it's tight but I think it will clear with the right aircleaner element combination.. To the very top of the air pipes on my carb I have 22.5", using a thin gasket and no spacer. from the bottom side of the body mounting area (With no mounting pad) to the underside of the hood in the scoop I get 25"... So I have 2.5" to spare. I suspect a cobra filter will not clear with out some modifaction due to it's length...

Did you use the short or tall motor mounts? Might have to give up on some oil pan clearence. I am thinking I should have bought the short.

Good question, actually I don't know unless someone can tell me what the differnce in height is. I'm running Prothane mounts I got through Summit.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I can tell you with my moroso pan it's barely below the frame. The bell housing is lower. I'll try and take some picture and try and get them posted tonight..

Ok I measured my motor mounts at 3" vertical height. There a photo of it in my gallary. Is that a high or low mount?

This is a tall 351 mount the bottom of the caliper is in the top of the hole 3 1/4". Not sure what the short is. Looks shorter on the mustangunlimited web site.

Here's a couple of shots of my mounts. Don't know if they are short or tall.

Hi Ron, I'll try and make the same measurement tonight. I checked Eldbrock website and the difference in height is 1 1/8, between the RPM and Air Gap..

Roscoe, can you do us a favor? When you look in through the scoop how much clearance is there between the top of air cleaner and the underside of the hood?

Thanks,

Jim

Using the Edelbrock Performer manifold, 1" spacer, Speed Demon and Hellings and Snellings air cleaner there is about 1/2" of space between the top of the air cleaner and the inside of the hood.

Hi Roscoe, thanks for looking! That at least sounds promising. Without the spacer I should be able to get the close to same clearance without the carb spacer you have.

Ron, I measured my mount hte same way you did and it is high mount. Now we just to figure out how much we would save using a low one..

Thanks,

Jim

You may get the clearance but you won't get the performance. I picked up several valuable hp by putting in the spacer.

RDC
Do you have the A & C Tall hood made for 460 users or the older short hood scoop. I know Roscoe has the older shorter Hood scoop made before the mold change A & C did around 2002.
Just an FYI.

On the CR w/ 351W, I have the Edelbrock Performer, Holly carb. The air cleaner is a base plate with , 2 1/4" high, 9" round K & N element.
