U.S. Military Field jacket

OK,

You Vet's... What is the best way to clean a Field jacket? Ginny says it needs to be cleaned or tossed. Now, I will not toss it as it is mine, I earned it and I'll keep it and it FITS again. But, it is groady.

Wash or Dry clean?

Mike

Warm soapy water and air dry. I have my original field jacket from Basic Training. Looks like it is brand new. That Jacket is almost 30 years old.

mikiec 01-04-2010 09:20 AM

Thanks Gregg,

Mine is also from basic training and that was a very long time ago.

I have washed and dried mine in the regular wash several times. It still looks good and it is 20 years old.

+1 for wash and dry, just dry it on gentle, not "broil." LOL Mine have been washed many times.

Wash on gentle setting, it is fragile. If it is still one piece you can put in the dryer on a medium heat setting.

Use soap. :D

In Arizona, I suggest you just hang it up outside and let it air dry. Dryers are tough on clothes... Specially on old clothes... I don't think they were ever designed to be put in a dryer.

mikiec 01-04-2010 12:42 PM

I shall wash and drip dry.

Thanks gang.

Well, after it's first and only washing in over 35 years it came out a little worse for wear.

Some if the stitching came unwraveled. Ginny is coming to the rescue and will fix it.

Hey Ralph,

Your leaving when? :):) I really think you should sell that place up north and play here all the time.

As for your idea... If and when MY field jacket does expire, I will not get a used replacement. Just can't replace the original.

Mikie, the ORIGINAL is too valuable to use every day, a REPLICA is the way to go!:D
AND people will constantly ask you, " Is that a REAL one?"

Ralph, now that was a really good answer. I'm still laughing as I type this.

HI Cobra 01-08-2010 09:55 PM

Now I am going to have to find mine - been washed a few times - no harm
done, and I got out 39 years ago today. Time do fly!
