Good bye CA, Hello AZ
My Wife and I are from Sacramento CA in the Norcal Cobra club and we are going to drive down to AZ in March in the Cobra to look around for a future retirement spot. Where is your Cobra Club located out of, Phenix, Tucson, Scottsdale?

Welcome to Arizona. The Arizona Cobra Club has members all over the state, however, the "headquarters" is in Phoenix where there are about 80 Cobras. Tucson has about 35 Cobras. The events / drives / cruises / shows are all over the metro areas. It is not uncommon to drive from 30 to 100 miles for an event. Mike Canning is our President ("for life" ), we pay no dues, have no meetings, and if you don't show up for an event we don't care but we do talk about you. The Phoenix area guys have a , er, ahh, strange sense of humour. Phoenix is a generic term because it encompasses the entire area including the suburbs, and, it can take up to 1 & 1/2 hours to travel from one side to the other. If you get down to the Tucson area please give me a call. 520-825-9197.

John, He's new. Don't discourage him until afterward.. We look forward to having a new member join us. We have a couple of California club members here. One of them still has a Cobra. (HINT HINT!) Everything that John said is true. Specially the part about talking about you if you don't show for something. All in all, it's a great bunch of guys and gals who enjoy each other's company most of the time. When you get close to your trip and you know where you are going to be, post it on here and we'll all show up for dinner and drinks. Or something like that.

JP, glad to have another refugee come to AZ. Don't even consider any area of the valley, other than the EAST SIDE, where the nicest, best looking, fastest, smartest, most MANLY portion of the group live. It begins...

Just don't park it in the sun in the middle of summer and then jump into either seat with shorts on. The two of you will be permanently bonded!

Welcome to AZ. We moved from San Rafael a few years ago and ended up up in Mesa, The East Side. (What Karl said). Google "Las Sendas" when looking for a home here. Nice gated community with mountains all around and lakes and the Salt River. Went through your neck of the woods nearly every weekend in the winter to Tahoe for Skiing. Lots of things to see here and cobra weather 9 months of the year.

I agree on the East side thing. We moved a little over a year ago from So. Cal and ended up in Gilbert. Nice, well run town with some great neighborhoods. Some with golf courses, some with lakes, some gated as well. Chandler, and Tempe are close by and great as well. Good luck on the search.

My uncle (who is more like a brother in age) went to The Valley in the 60's. We visited every year or two. My wife and I moved there in 76. What a cool place then. We bought a house and lived in Tempe in an area that was built in the late 60's. We went to a guys farm and had permission to shoot gophers in the finished cotton fields. That area is now the Intel plant in Chandler (where I worked in the late 90's). I was looking at small town keep out of your head with no HOA properties in the Queen Creek area. Even that area is now built up.
When we were down there in the 70's I drove to Tucson and south to the military bases every couple of weeks. One time in I think February we had a rain storm. The desert between Phoenix and Tucson bloomed into an fabulous "desert blossom". I've never seen anything like it and I didn't have my camera with me. By the time I finished the work and came back north it had cleared out. Truly "Desert Paradise".

I'd bet that was the spring bloom at Picacho Peak. That can be truly a wonder for a day or two. Another beautiful place in the spring time is Apache Trail from Apache Junction to Roosevelt Lake. It's about 30 miles of dirt road and several hundred frames of photographs.

Fortunately, no. Retired means retired. Living on Pension, investments, S.S. I planned for the eventuality of never needing to work again, unless I want to. But this is far down the road some. We just happen to have a vacation coming up and thought it would be fun to drive down to scope AZ out. If I could have things my way I would get out of CA now. I loath this place. The gun laws suck, taxes are through the roof, Haven of Liberalism, etc. I'm just here to finish out my career which has me locked in.

Look again .... that's a taco wagon putting out their shade canopy and they leave at 7:30 every night. I'll admit you do have a way with words though.
