Title help on CSX needed

I could use some advice on registering my CSX4981. MVD does not seem to believe me that this is a CSX car. They want to strip the tags off and put on some blue tag. Any advice would be helpful. I would like to drive the car legally. :)

I think the state is going to issue a VIN number no matter what the chassis number is. It's on an ugly blue tag that they'll stick on somewhere easily seen, like the dash or the cowl brace by the drivers door. Just see if they will put it as out of the way as possible.

Is your car already titled?

If yes, then they go by what the title states

If no, what paperwork do you have in your possession?

The more details you give us, the better off we can guide you.

Your Shelby distributor should be able to help with DMV. Hard to believe they do not have someone who handles registration issues. You have the original MSO from Shelby stating the CSX# and date of manufacture. In Ca many guys go straight to SB100. Don't know about AZ, but that info is out there on the web............I guess I should have asked if this is the first time registration??? Do they question the permanent CSX# on the upper right hand frame member........????

I have the original CSX4981 MSO signed by Carrol and a certificate of authenticity signed by Don McCain(carrol was in the hospital) for the CSX1281 engine.

That is what they want to do...and strip the csx plate off.

I think Bill has the knowledge base for this....I can only speak for my CSX history. DMV took my original MSO signed by " The Man " and titled her as a Shelby 1965. I can hear inputs coming on that......I wish they would have taken a copy and not the original. I have no doubt that my DMV would have issued you a title like mine.......We can all tell many stories of our DMV adventures. Good luck.....Have you talked to your distributor on this issue???

I don't think they need to remove the chassis tag. If they do though, remove it yourself before you go down there. After they stick on the ugly blue tag, reattach the CSX plate.
DMV is going to put the blue VIN tag where it can be easily seen by law enforcement somewhere near the drivers door.

Did they also think you did the frame ID????

csx4017 12-29-2012 01:07 PM

When CA DMV / Highway Patrol Inspection Station applies an SB100 number even they do not remove the Shelby Chassis Plate ( that I have seen ).

OK, forget about the COA for the engine, let's start with exactly what Arizona state paperwork you filled out and exactly how you filled in the blanks.

That's BS. Under no circumstances let them remove the Shelby VIN plate. Get to a supervisor or start calling other locations to get someone who knows what they are doing.

Trust me it would be on if they tried. I've tried you just can't get the right poeple on the phone. I was hoping that someone hear might know someone at a location with some Cobra knowledge.

I might add that the reason I mention the COA is because they asked for the MSO on the egine and the trans. This is because the MSO states less motor and trans.

Give the Arizona guys a day or so to catch up. There are a lot of them here that can point you in the right direction.

They want the MSO for the roller ("chassis and body") and receipts for the engine/trans. They're not looking for any originality statement on the engine but what you paid for it. Sales tax is calculated on all parts. Usually you do not pay sales tax on the roller until you register it, but if you bought and paid sales tax on the engine in another state they won't charge you again.

Agree with Tony......AZ GUYS come aboard. Give up on this DMV branch and do some homework.
