Houston we have a problem
OK Gentlemen Im looking for some advice. Put dics brakes on the car this week and found a 327. gear not as I was told 355. I would like to go to a 373 gear whats your opinion? I do like to race form time to time, maybe the Procar runs at firebird later on.
PS I got my BUTT handed to me on Sat by a Z06 vette. The car with me in it 2230 lbs 450+hp good launch( i believe the power to weight ratio is good) he pulled every gear on me and he weighs 3000+ talk to guy at the light Programmer/exhaust/cold air intake. I not understand. Maybe it's time for a 468 BB with a shot right mr.Bob...HA HA

Depends on whether you will spend more time racing or more time on the hiway. What kind of diff do you have? Don't know anything about your car so it's hard to say.

A 3.73 would give lots of lowerend torque, but do you have the traction to handle it? What tranny with what ratios? What is your rear tire diameter? How often do you need the pull? If you're wanting it just every once in a while, a gentle shot of NOS might be your answer. The biggest thing about NOS is that you NEVER want to run lean on gasoline when using a spray!
A newer Z06 is plenty hard to get by. GM has done a darn good job wringing a ton of power out of a push rod motor, and you can still get well over 20MPG if you want to.

I have a 3.73 and a TKO trans with a .67 radio in 5th gear. Great combo for street and track, since you never use 5th on the track. 120mph in 4th. Unless you have a long straight. For long distance I would have preferred a 3.55 or a 6 speed. Biggest problem is always hookup. Your cobra should be able to take the ZO6 with good grip and a tuned windsor motor.

Time to go back to the dyno and find our where youe HP went. Put better rubber on it. go to the 355 gears. He will still run you over in the corners But should not gane ground in the straght.

stock Z06 does 12.0 quarters, no more. with a good tuning and the right gears, he's toast via your windsor.....
watch out though vette owners are a bit whiney, he won't look at you when you beat him....

I'm not sure what kind of rear tires you have, but they need to be drag radials for sure.

Was it a C5 or a C6? As I recall the C5's are low 12's and the C6's are high 11's out of the box and respond very well to just basic bolt on's.

maybe with the right driver the c6 can do that.....i raced a c6 vette and he couldn't break into the 11's.....his car was bone stock. it did hook up well though. i did get the cold shoulder in the pits....he had been bragging on what he spent on the car.......of course i told him i had half that into mine. a whole second faster kept him quiet.....

Thank you all for the Info
Mr Dan i am running a 8.8 I had a 255 60 r15 when I bought the car and put a 27560 r15 and thats as wide at the car will except, I have been concidering updating the suspension.
Mr Karl NOS and me have some bad blood me and her dont get along, but Doug (engine builder) is going to be looking at the motor next week and will be retuning now I have some brake in time with the new motor.
Mr Bob I think going from a 255/60r15 to a 275/60r15 327 gear is the problem then we built the 408 based around Fords crate engine( 427 535hp motor)the difference being same valve size but trick flow heads 408cid block and 750hp carb vs 780 everything else is the same. I still lost but by maybe a vette length.I am not sure if I want another race car got tired of always working on building hp and burnning up tires will see.
Mr Bill I have concidered a 275/60 MT ET street tire but like I said to mr Bob not sure of the cars direction yet. Thank you all for the responces

BA, I've run the MT Drag Radials on the back for years and been very happy with them. Granted, not so much in rain or snow, but they have felt good on curves and do a good job of hooking up, after they are heated. I've read of people running them on all four corners on their Cobras, and been happy wit them. A whole lot cheaper than Avons. Just a thought.

By the numbers, you should be quicker.
Perhaps your tune is off and (no offense) driving technique may need some polishing.

Just remember most of us have 12 second cars but are 60 second drivers.
