Well, started the car this morning. It backfired twice and started running really rough. Shut it down and got the timing light thinking the timing gear had slipped. Not so lucky. Started it up again and something was rattling around under the manifold. So we won't be going today. I'm hoping that something simple like a small nuclear explosion took place. Otherwise it will be a while before it's running again.. ANyway, ya'll have fun.. we miss you.

Great weather and a great run. I believe it was 19 or 20 cars there today, 4 of them have their wallets lightened courtesy of the DPS. One was a repeat customer.
Others will chime in. I'll post some video and pics lather today. |
Only 3, Don skated with a warning (I think he got the senior discount).

Good run but getting hard to drive 30 mph :CRY:up that road. Most all of us could have been given a special state :eek:gift! After sitting %/for 30 minutes at restrauant without getting waited on I left. The room waitress was overwhelmed and had orders screwed up so figured I would drive home and eat. Table:) bought my coffee...thanks.
But fun run and the food at bar looked good... |
Well, I'm disappointed that I couldn't go.. so we will try again on Saturday. If anyone is interested, let me know and we can arrange to try again.. I did find the piece that I heard rattle around in the manifold.. Not sure what it is but there is nothing I can see missing from the carb nor is there anything missing from the air filter.. It shall remain a puzzlement.

Mike, Don got one. He re-read it.
Dan, I might be up for a do over. Mike |
AT least the restaurant in Yarnell will be open. Slow service at Gold Nugget but my food was OK. I called them ahead and told them we were coming. I heard the owner on the phone trying to get another waitress in but no good. He had more regular New Year's Day customers (besides us) than he expected.

Now that's funny. Next time we should go to the Mexican place across the street. It's gotten really good reviews. $25 for two so-so burgers and water seemed a bit much, especially given the 45 minute wait. |
T'was a wonderful day for a ride, but a very slow one. I would like to suggest a different route in the future. Officer "not-so-friendly" seems to catch too many people on Yarnell Hill. Maybe a trip out to Bartlett Lake- nice twisties, no DPS. MCSO doesn't make a habit of hiding on the side of the road with radar as often. Happy New Year, all
|
Our record on Bartlett Lake Road is no better than Yarnell Hill. DPS loves us there too. Tickets every year. You are right, we could use a new trip route. Help us out finding one or two.

I think that when the DPS officer saw me as I passed Vulture mine road, he thought easy pickens.
He took great pains to catch up to me. Finally passed me in Congress. I tried to warn but my hand signs were mis interpeted. Next year, we need a rabbit plan. |
We are starting to fit the old adage about dressing up with no place to go. Jakes Corner drive is a favorite with everyone who doesn't get stopped twice on the same drive. Yarnell seem to be popular. Bartlett is well exercised and written. Maybe we should handle these with emails as it would appear that DPS is watching our board here? Do ya think?

Jakes Corner...
Next year Breakfast right ? Someone driving up there this weekend ? Jerome ? |
Let's not forget about night time runs?
I know a few of us like Karl can't see at night but we will have to be careful is all. Pavilions during Barrett Jackson is huge if you get there early%/:rolleyes: |

A Jerome run would be great, except for the parking.
I have an idea for next years run up Yarnell. Mike |
Did I miss the video or pictures of Don's gang dodging jail time?

After relating yesterday's events a buddy sent me this:

The officer was nice. He gave them all civil complaints.
I'm still working on the video. I need to be able to slow it down as I went by them at 40MPH. |
