Simichrome

Finally found some.

Now to clean the brass receiver.

dave from mesa 02-03-2014 03:26 PM

What's wrong with Brasso?

Car Nut 02-03-2014 05:06 PM

Brasso worked great in the Army.

WillisT 02-04-2014 07:38 AM

What part of a Cobra has a brass receiver?

Karl Bebout 02-04-2014 08:47 AM

Simichrome--Scheeesch! I usta use that stuff on my '65 Honda 305 Super Hawk that I poked and stroked out to 350.

Simichrome

I'm with Karl, I used it on my '49 panhead back in '68. I'm surprised it's still around after 45 plus years! 209

Danr55 02-04-2014 12:37 PM

I bet a flitz cloth would work better for polishing a receiver.:

mikiec 02-04-2014 02:05 PM

Flitz cloth was harder to find than simichrome.

I have it, it works as recommended.

Danr55 02-04-2014 03:53 PM

I have a can of it if you want some.

Dirty Harry 02-05-2014 07:13 AM

I used Simichrome for 27 years, but I tried Flitz and I think it's just as good.

mikiec 02-06-2014 07:30 AM

Dan,

Thanks for the offer. Let's see how the simi stuff does this weekend. I'll be polishing up the receiver of my 1860 henry.

dave from mesa 02-06-2014 09:17 AM

Mikie
You sure that it doesn't have some kind of protective coating on it?

mikiec 02-06-2014 09:49 AM

No protective coating. Most let it go to a mustard color patina. I like shinny.

That's one of the reasons I bought it. Plus I've wanted one since I was 12.

That was when they first came out, Right??:D

Danr55 02-06-2014 01:44 PM

Model 1860. That would make Mike 12 that year...so about 165 years old? Nope. Mike can't be a day over 92..

mikiec 02-06-2014 05:33 PM

Well let's see I do have an 1851 Navy Colt. So I must be older than you guys think.

I doubt that.

Karl Bebout 02-06-2014 06:50 PM

Mikiec, bet there's some sort of protectorate you could use, after you get your shinny bling back, to keep the brass from oxidizing...or...wear gloves so your sweaty palms don't touch the brass.

mikiec 02-07-2014 05:42 AM

Yeah, or better yet leave it in a case and never touch it.

WillisT 02-07-2014 07:42 AM

I'm going to rack a brown ale into secondary tomorrow using my new 6.5 gallon glass carboy w/my auto siphon. It's an extract batch w/a 5.30 ABV.

Then a batch of Czech Pilz recipe is next up to bat in the fermenter!

Yum!
