Picnic 2014
Our own Karl has graciously volunteered to look for a new location for our Arizona Cobra Annual Picnic. This is not an easy job. How's it going Karl? I have looked on line myself and have not had much luck. Finding a location that doesn't cost much (or nothing) where you can park within sight, with ramadas, tables, grills and restrooms is not easy.
April 5th is getting close. The first Saturday in April is normal but that can change also. Perhaps something closer for the Tucson boys and east siders. Or, of course, we can return to Bartlett Lake. AZ Bob |
Or some track that is free?:rolleyes::LOL:
|
:confused:Don't any of you Rich guys gals have a track in your back yards?
|
Let's all build a track, we can bring Hershyl back to supervise...:3DSMILE:

I've been looking at parks in Scottsdale and Tempe. I saw Ron today at Fountain hills and he's going to check into the railroad park in Scottsdale, since he's a resident and the reservation fee is less. I also have another idea that I want to look into. I'll be posting details soon.
BTW, If we do wind up with a reservation fee, it'll still probably be less than we all had to pay for our park passes at the lake. |
I welcome looking into what are options are and maybe even trying something new. I will also point out Bartlett Lake has been a good location with close, ample parking, tables, shade and BBQ pits with a great view. The lake is going to be tough to beat but lets see what the options are. Jeff C

I will defer to those making the plans. I liked the lake for the drive.
|
Yep, yep, and yep, The drive to Bartlett is nice, would be better if there was no fear of receiving those "good driving citations", but that can't be helped, unless Ralphieor maybe goFast Bill wants to volunteer for the "rabbit" position. It is really a hike for east siders, which is no biggie, but even with the view, we always just wound up sitting around on concrete and blacktop, too far away from the water to enjoy it. It will probably be hard to beat the convenience of how close the whizzers are to the ramadas, but I'm looking for areas that have them in close proximity, yet distant enough to prevent any "wafting".

Karlos,
I give you and others credit for your efforts to find other options. Good on ya all. There will always be something to ***** about with a location. On the warm and fuzzy side there are always the good points of a location. I have been trying to come up with a few locations to throw into the mix but not much to add. Jeff C |
There are some picnic locations on the way to Tortilla flats.

No, they felt sorry for you.

Mikiec,
"There are some picnic locations on the way to Tortilla flats" Wanna sit under a saguaro and pee on some greasewood? |
Just putting it out there. Remember seeing them on our runs to the Flats. Never looked at them.
|
I checked out the fountain area in Fountain Hills and a park in town but was not impressed.
|
The park at fountain Hills is pretty but few, if any ramadas, whizzers., or shade. I'm trying to make hte location a little more centralized, if I can.
|
Hoping to leave no stone unturned, I have asked Ralphie to look in the Maricopa area for a spot. He is researching and reporting back so Karl can expand his horizons.

I Googled AZ parks and the AZ state parks are listed on a map with all the amenities at each location with pictures, might give you some more ideas, Lost Dutchman Park looks cool...
|
I think Bartlett Lake is a terrible location.
|
Here's an idea! Let's have another wedding in Scott's back yard and kill two birds with one stone. Talking about stones, if no one wants to get married we'll just get stoned!%/ (I shouldn't drink while posting on here.)
