I've broken 2 transmissions.

Tommy 03-01-2015 11:26 AM

Easy answer: LF brake, RF brake, LR brake, RR brake and parking brake.

Nedsel 03-01-2015 11:27 AM

Oh well, those are the brakes. :JEKYLHYDE

Buzz 03-01-2015 11:28 AM

My list - combination of personal experience and what I've seen on the forum:

1. Overheating

2. Heat soak/vapor lock

3. Ammeter

4. Electrical/ground fault

5. Is it Real? :3DSMILE:

I see what you did there. ;)

So Far:
1 Transmission
1 Brakes
3 Overheating
1 Ammeter
1 Anything Lucas Switches

A 42 gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell is good for 4 years, then goes to hell.
Replacement cost is over $4k and that's just for the new bladder and internal foam, not to mention work to replace it all.
How do I know this?
Pulled the tank, pulled the cell, had it welded up with internal baffles, isolated pickup area etc.
If I race it, then I will deal with that.

Clutch master
Clutch pressure plate
Hydro throw out bearing (Clutch)
Collector flange gaskets, flange bolts coming loose
Intake manifold gasket leak, failure
All good now

So Far:
1 Transmission
1 Brakes
3 Overheating
1 Ammeter
1 Anything Lucas Switches
1 Fuel Safe Cell
1 Clutch Related
Levy says the fuel safe cell lasts for 10 years. If I change mine I am going to regular tank.

keezling 03-01-2015 02:40 PM

fuel pumps, premature rear tire wear. :-)

Buzz 03-01-2015 02:56 PM

I'll second these two:

Clutch master cylinder (probably heat related)

Exhaust header to side pipe leak (makes for some awesome blasts and pops on deceleration)

DanEC 03-01-2015 03:30 PM

So Far - the dirty (half) dozen:

1. alternator charge wire connection worked loose and fried the wire and alternator - probably nut pinched terminal insulator and vibrated loose

2. charging system not charging - not enough resistance to "excite" VR into charging action

3. black ceramic coating failed on exhaust - bad ceramic powder formula from California due to environmental rules change

4. lucas switch failed to switch (surprise, surprise)

5. heater shut off valve at engine had leak from porosity in metal.

6. brake master cylinder leaked fluid from start.

Motor! Need I say more?

ERA 778 03-01-2015 05:04 PM

Can't believe FE oil leaks are not on here yet, but cooling system and getting carb dialed in are also in my top three. Smith's speedometer went south as well.
