Default Sat. morning (06/13) drive to South Mtn - Dobbins Lookout?

Just throwing this out there....I understand a few are getting together for a Sunday drive via the other post. I unfortunately can't make that run but would be willing to run up South Mtn to Dobbins Lookout for a shorter drive Sat. morning if anyone is interested.

Anyone do this in the Cobra before? Is it a decent run?

I understand its pretty twisty and curvy (like Tortilla Flat) but the view is supposed to be pretty cool.

We can meet at;

Perhaps 6:45am?

Looking at the map it looks like the only way up there is off of Central in Phoenix. Can we get there from Chandler/Auwatukee?

Only entrance and exit is Central from the north. Been all around the park hiking. Nice lookouts but not really a run. Would be dangerous to speed and the Rangers are tough. Took my Jeep I could lock up. Lots of low class people there. Be wise. Stay in yellow alert.
Biggest Phoenix City Park.

I also just learned that during weekend mornings there are tons of bicyclists training up and down that road.

Sorry fellas...Perhaps this is not the best route. It looked good on the map though for a local (in Phx) drive.

Oh well. Any other recomendation for Sat. morning...I'm open.

Perhaps we can convince Karl to go Saturday rather than Sunday. What do you think Karl?

the only reason I opted for Sunday was the weather SOMEBODY forecasted (then of course changed). You know if the day keeps flip flopping, someone will miss the change, so I'm up for keeping the breakfast run this Sunday.

Just heard of a Hotrod diner about an hour from here. I'm going to go check it out on Saturday. I'll post pics.

Default Thanks for trying

Mr MVNAZ, thank you so much for offering up a suggestion for a run. Sorry, I do not know your name. Taking the initiative to suggest events is encouraged. We all want to go places but new and interesting ones are hard to find. To new owners, our repeat trips are quite remarkable. Quite adventurous. You just never know what will happen next, but there will always be fun. I hope we hear from you again.

I drive it all the time, go up to the very top and also to the main lookout, on the very top you can all park have lunch and hang out plenty of room...

This place opened up some time ago, I believe it used to be the old split window cafe in Fountain Hills. Every Sunday from October - May, they do a car show brunch. I am going to follow this one and maybe check it out when the weather cools down.

Phil's Filling Station Grill | Never Leave Here Hungry[/quote]

Joe,
I've been to Phil's many times. Good little car show. I usually go for breakfast and stay for the car show. The drive through Rio Verde on Dynamite Blvd / Rio Verde Dr is better than going down Shea to get to the restaurant / show.

We made the drive to South Mountain with Gary and Vicki one time to see the "Super Moon". Fun drive, but short.
