Got it! Thank you.

Backdraft builds a nice car, but I've seen few that have been sold on the second hand, used market for anything over $40,000 in the past 8 months.

I do suggest, if you can, to get together with your local Cobra club and see if you can view all of the different brands side by side. If you can, then you'll see the differences between each manufacturers body, especially the BDR's.........

Superformance builds a quality car and so does ERA. You generally know what you're getting with Superformance as they are factory built & painted turnkey minus (no engine and transmission). ERA is viewed by many as the top glass replica .. outside of a glass Shelby for double the money, or an aluminum Kirkham. With FFR you really need to know WHO built the car as every car is different. Shop with resale value in mind and if you focus on ERA and Superformance you are putting your money into a solid platform.

Not even sure I could really sell it.
But at this time of year and my future plans I may not use it much either.

Just call Kirkham and get the best, then you wont buy one and sell it and buy another and sell it and eventually get a Kirkham, ask me how I know...

I agree. The overall quality is awesome and your getting a truly period piece of hardware. It's essentially the real thing, only better! Love mine. Bought right the first time. You'll have this face every time you drive.

If you find a car on the east coast (or Midwest, etc) that you are seriously interested in but can't manage to travel to look at, you can post here and see if there is anyone on the forum who lives in the area and would be willing to look at the car for you. Not as good as looking at it yourself, but if you are new to the Cobra market, a third party may be more objective and provide you a lot of valuable feedback.

Ehhhh, I don't know... if you're going to drop $50k on a toy, you need to catch a discount flight to check it out. Buying any of these cars sight unseen, even if one of us says "it looks good to me," is asking for trouble.

I have watched 4 BDR's sell in the $35,900-$38,500 price range on various cars for sale online lists in the last 8 months, 2 more at $40,000 and $40,300 respectively in that same time period. Non shilled Ebay auctions seem to top out at 34-38K.

You're scaring him.... Its only money....
These things are easily "fixed". Particularly when they are Roller cars to begin with...

I bought mine sight unseen! YES, I would do it again.
Sight unseen is no big deal for a bargain.

Here's what I'd do in your shoes:

STEP 1. Pick up the phone

STEP 2. Dial the number on this ad: PhotoPost Classifieds - Superformance MKIII - SPO887 - w/Factory Hardtop For Sale - Powered by PhotoPost Classifieds

STEP 3. Exchange funds for car

Take the $10K or so you have left and buy you partner something nice!

But it's likely all he has. He can't afford to gamble it. Fifty grand is a funny number -- with luck you can get a nice car but, most of the time, it's just a wee bit short in order to buy what the guy really wants.

If you can get a backdraft for a good deal, jump all over it, they are very good cars, total drivers car, they look cool too, some of them are pretty radical in their looks and performance and some are classic looking...
BADSN8K and mrracer like this.

All very true, but let's be honest, if he tips in $40k for the example I gave, I'm pretty sure even at a fire sale he'd be able to get at least $35k back for it. Yes?

So we're really only talking $5k aren't we?
A tank of fuel and a couple of Cuban cigars really.

I'd have thought a small price to pay considering the standard price of admission for these things.

All the BDR cars I see right now are in the mid 50-60's. Please let me know if you find the 35-40K car

Where are you located? I am in north Scottsdale.

Please give me some more specifics on the car.

When was it built?

What type of rear suspension?

Motor specs?

Trans specs?

Any issues or things that need to be fixed or tweaked?

Tire tread left?

Any extras included? top?
