Orange with a truck motor maybe, but prettier than the cute little motor you have..

DWRAT 10-11-2015 09:50 PM

Finally filled up tonight, I got 21.1 mpg from the hotel to home.
I'm very happy with that.

When's the next run???

Karl, did you ever get her running?

Karl Bebout 10-12-2015 08:53 AM

Ratti Tat Tat, You got much better mileage than my teeny engine, except, of course, lately, it hasn't been using much gas at all. I've just got too many carburetors to get good mileage.
Not running yet. Kinda lost incentive after not getting to drive the Trail. Have been working on it but have had trials and tribulations. The last being broken water pump bolt, but at least I did get lucky and it left a stub sticking through the front cover that I was able to vise grip out. Ever try to find a 5/16 x 18, 6" socket head bolt? Even Copper State didn't have one. Ordered a couple from McMaster Carr, and then yesterday, Mesa Mike brought two of them over. Go figure. Still have to mount the water pump, alternator, distributor, plugs and valve covers. With the way my luck has been going, I certainly don't expect it to fire right off. I do have the timing gear marks aligned and the advance marked but since the engine has the wrong front cover/water pump combination, there's no way to see a timing mark. FoMoCo JOYS!

Now would be a great time to install a new timing pointer since you should know where exact TDC is now. Tavia and several other companies make them.

Bob Broberg SPF667 460BB 10-12-2015 06:06 PM

Benny, That was Dan Ratti. His speedometer broke on the way home Sunday but he has already fixed it.
Thanks anyway for your generous offer.
My trip odometer is broken, does yours have one?

How about you create a posting with a date that works for you and a trip plan.
Hopefully a few of us will bite, I know I will.
Dan

Karl Bebout 10-12-2015 07:38 PM

Nut-ski, I'm working of fashioning a pointer that I think I'll be able to see, under the Alternator. I already have an advance knob timing light, so I should be able to just have a line on the balancer lined up with the pointer to be able to determine my total advance, without having to be concerned with degree marks on the balancer. I'd like things better if I could actually a mark rather than just timing by ear. I have no way of measuring vacuum with no plenum chamber under my Webers.

Tell us more about the run.
Is it just a day run or a over-niter?
From where to where.

Varmit 10-12-2015 09:38 PM

It will be a single day run from San Diego County to Riverside County then back to San Diego Get over on a Friday then be able to head back Sunday

Get here early enough Friday and we will take a night cruise along the beaches

Anyone else interested in doing this?
We could make this a trailer trip or a driving trip.

Danr55 10-13-2015 07:17 AM

What's the route look like? Is it all freeway driving or are you going to run through the mountains?

Karl Bebout 10-13-2015 08:44 AM

"What's the route look like? Is it all freeway driving or are you going to run through the mountains"

Well Danr, knowing Bennie's joy of "twisty curvies" and even his mention of their "twisty curvy" runs, back a few entries, I sorta doubt it would be a freeway run.

Too Easy.

Varmit 10-13-2015 10:06 AM

twisties gentlemen mountain and flats Well end up a Hell's Kitchen on the Ortega Highway (mountain twisties) for lunch, then back

I've sent it to Dan. Maybe he can help you out

Scotchman 10-13-2015 03:36 PM

Benny,
Thanks for the caps you sent. They look great, no more wipers ! I'm interested in the run over in your neck of the woods, just not sure of the timing yet. No truck to pull my trailer either, so I'd have to drive over and back.
