Finally filled up tonight, I got 21.1 mpg from the hotel to home.
I'm very happy with that. When's the next run??? Karl, did you ever get her running? |
Ratti Tat Tat, You got much better mileage than my teeny engine, except, of course, lately, it hasn't been using much gas at all. I've just got too many carburetors to get good mileage.
Not running yet. Kinda lost incentive after not getting to drive the Trail. Have been working on it but have had trials and tribulations. The last being broken water pump bolt, but at least I did get lucky and it left a stub sticking through the front cover that I was able to vise grip out. Ever try to find a 5/16 x 18, 6" socket head bolt? Even Copper State didn't have one. Ordered a couple from McMaster Carr, and then yesterday, Mesa Mike brought two of them over. Go figure. Still have to mount the water pump, alternator, distributor, plugs and valve covers. With the way my luck has been going, I certainly don't expect it to fire right off. I do have the timing gear marks aligned and the advance marked but since the engine has the wrong front cover/water pump combination, there's no way to see a timing mark. FoMoCo JOYS! |

Benny, That was Dan Ratti. His speedometer broke on the way home Sunday but he has already fixed it.

Nut-ski, I'm working of fashioning a pointer that I think I'll be able to see, under the Alternator. I already have an advance knob timing light, so I should be able to just have a line on the balancer lined up with the pointer to be able to determine my total advance, without having to be concerned with degree marks on the balancer. I'd like things better if I could actually a mark rather than just timing by ear. I have no way of measuring vacuum with no plenum chamber under my Webers.

It will be a single day run from San Diego County to Riverside County then back to San Diego Get over on a Friday then be able to head back Sunday
Get here early enough Friday and we will take a night cruise along the beaches |
