New Years Day Run

OK,, it was a tough call but since Butcher Hook is open and Maria's is closed, I decided we will run to Butcher Hook in Tonto Basin. We will leave the Shell Station on Shea Blvd. just off B Line at 10:00AM and run to Tonto Basin to the Butcher Hook for Brunch.. It will likely be chillly going over Mr. Ord, but the rest of the trip, if the weather holds, should be great. I need a head count by 12/28 so they will know how many seats to set aside for us. Last time we had 31 people.. Let's beat that this time. If there are any open seats, I have a freind who may ask for a ride.. so if your right side is empty, please let me know.
Thanks

Karl Bebout 12-09-2015 09:15 PM

I'll go, if it's not raining and the dam doesn't burst.

Cobrakeith 12-10-2015 08:51 AM

Sign me up for this one. Looks like I'll have an open seat if needed.

mikiec 12-10-2015 08:55 AM

I have an open seat. Not to sure about my weather.

Put me on the list... It will give me a reason to pay more careful attention to my rate of consumption the evening prior....

Please count me in (2)

It was suggested to me that perhaps we have made this trip from Shea BLVD. to Punkin Center the same way everytime. Maybe we should make the trip a different way. Start on Idaho Road and US 60 go up through Superior and Globe and then North through Tonto Basin. I said I would throw it up for discussion. Any preferences for one route vs. the other?

moore_rb 12-11-2015 07:09 AM

JMHO- But the Desert route through Globe might make a little more "seasonal" sense for a January day trip...?

It also adds the scenery of driving past the lake, and over the bridge, etc...

I like the idea.

Karl Bebout 12-11-2015 08:15 AM

Six of one, half dozen of the other. To lengthen the ride, maybe up through Superior, over to Winkleman, Globe, Roosevelt, Butcher Hook, etc. ???

Danr
Keep in mind when planning cobra runs that this isn't the "East Mesa Cobra Club".
Several members are from the central valley, the west valley and a few from the north valley.
Just sayin...

As you know up until now all New Years Day runs have been on the West side going up Yarnell hill and Prescott for those that wanted to go that far.

Might be nice to do an East side New Years day run this year.

It's nice to see an alternative.

What was last years run?

Danr55 12-11-2015 03:23 PM

True.. and for those of us who were at the Anniversary Party, it was mentioned several times that the Yarnell Run was not only cold, but was full of peril. So when I was handed the batton, my first choice was Maria's in Winkleman which would still be my first choice with the exception of the fact that they are closed. So the second mention was Punkin Center.. not that any of that means anything, but just sayin''...

DWRAT 12-11-2015 05:29 PM

Just think about my comment in future planning.

hinoonaz 12-11-2015 07:53 PM

the run thru Globe is fine by me. Only issue would be road construction. Not appealing if that is the case. Go up to Payson and then Strawberry etc. I have a heater now yea!!

mikiec 12-11-2015 09:41 PM

Where ever you guys go ,make it a long and fun run. Mine might last 20 minutes depending on the weather. With my luck it will snow that day.

The Yarnell Road is a blast to drive- It's like a miniature Coronado Trail, but I agree- It is not a good winter day trip candidate -

a "Lower 89" trip really needs to take place in April, when the weather is ideal in that part of the state... Again, JMHO
