Anything New?
On the Varmit, Dwrat, Scotchman Southern Arizona Bisbee/Tombstone run?
Also, Karl, any changes in Club Picnic? I have some supplies.

There are a few picnic sites along Bush Hwy. and the Salt River, or Saguaro Lake that I'm wanting to look at. The park in Mesa where we went last year was almost perfect, except not much of a fun drive to get to.

There were some places along side Apache Lake.
Not sure if there is a picnic area at Goldfield?

The road to Tortilla Flats has not been repaired since the days of the Hash knife stage.line.

It will keep people from speeding and going off the edge.
Goldfield is long before the rough section. Then there is always a return to Rattlesnake.

That would be nice, but it's not on the east side so that's out for sure.

No sour grapes here, just the facts.
BTW,
I've tried several times and no one ever shows.

Dan rat..
The east side was always well represented at Rattlesnake in the past.
There is Canyon Lake; Saguaro lake. If I get any other ideas I post them.

Mike,
What I am saying is now every run is a east side run, except for route 66.
I've tried 3 different times to rally up a run with no luck.
Kinda sad what has happened since you moved.
I'm done complaining, for a while anyways.

RatBoy, I remember the one three day run you talked about over to SD and parts north. What were the other two? Sorry, I don't remember.
I'm all over going somewhere else, just have to hear about them. Tell me where, tell me where.
Tortilla Flats, Superior, Winkleman, Mesa Park :
Yarnell Hill
Rattle Snake Cove
Rt 66
Laughlin
Tucson
Hersh's Christmas Parties
Payson
Strawberry
Jake's Corner
all east of LA.
What have I missed?
BTW
Sorry, but I'm not going scour Maryville, Glendale, Goodyear, Buckeye, Tolleson and such places for this year's picnic. If anyone has a different local, with more to look at than a parking lot, Set it up. I'll be glad to come and I'd imagine there'll be a good turnout from the East Bumb Screw Crowd.

Here was a try: Friday 9-11 early breakfast run
And another: see post #9 and then post #16 & 17 where it headed east again. Saturday?
And another: see post #9 which was before bad weather was showing.

RatBoy, now, I do remember them. on the 9/11 idea, I probably needed more than 5 days notice, but maybe not.
I've found that I get much better turnout if I state something is happening, with times, dates, destinations, rather than asking "is anyone interested"...
My 2¢.

Arizona Cobra Trips
Dan Ratti, we DO appreciate all your attempts at runs. Many of us north siders are simply getting old, many work M-F,and weather does not always cooperate As you get older your family gatherings only grow. With age also comes worn out parts. I am sitting here now downing pain killers after my 3rd surgery in 18 months.
Mikie used to just go and if others wanted to join, fine. Our annual trips were all tried first by just one car or only a few. Look at the Corronado Trail Run. The good trips survived. I even tried and failed at a North Arizona trip in mid summer last year. Laughlin was a bust. Last year's Tucson trip took a lot of planning (ask Rick,) and was thought up years ago by Tucson John and Mikie. This year no one has taken up the torch. I have a list of different Tucson trips and Northern Arizona trips made up. Just need organizing. Arizona is endless. Best place to live if you own a cobra.
At least, as a gang, nothing is in stone. All it would take for another Tucson trip is a motel location. Not even special deals. The rest grows into place. Cobra owners are a bunch of Type A personalities. Like herding cats. We tried to recognize your attempts and trip attendance at our Anniversary Party with a trophy but, you weren't there. I still have it. The future of the club must be in the hands and hearts of younger members.
As I always told my kids: "just do it, no guts not glory." No trip or event every ended up described as "bad."
AZ Bob

Since you brought it up Bob. Bisbee sounds good. There are some interesting roads to travel. We can even see the big balloons in Sierra Vista. There is an very old auto wrecking yard last visited 20 years ago. Even go to Douglas and visit one of the largest land frauds in the world! Gary

X'lent X'lent.
Got the ideas flowing. I haven't been down 85 to Gila Bend for decades. I see that it continues south to Ajo and swings East as 86 towards Tucson. Maybe head south for the Titan Missile Museum? Probably a bit much for a one day run. With Tucson John out, who could I contact in Tucson about seeing it they would want to participate?

I'd like to chime in here with some thoughts.
I came to AZ in 2006 from the Bay Area, excited to extend my driving time with the great weather here. Eagerly I joined in my first cruise from Idaho road/60 to Globe on a challenge run for the ice-cream between PHX and TUC gang. About 20 cars and a fun time. and lunch. As I recall this was organized by Tucson John and was kind of an annual thing where John gave me a $2 bill which I still have in my jewelry case. The next run was, I think was the Route 66 run. Again an annual run and always fun. Picnic at Rattlesnake, yuck, and Christmas party and a Picnic in Tuscon at one of the homes of the gang down there. Pretty good year.
Mix of east side/west side runs with a run up to Payson or Jakes Corner thrown in too.
I see Mikiec posted an old photo of a large number of Cobras recently. The only time I have seen that many cars together was when we went on a charity ride to a local medical center to give a dying wish ride to a husband/wife team. I counted 42 cars.
Now, since 2006 I have seen turnouts of 6-8 cars a large number. Local coffee and cars do draw up to 12 cars and are centrally located in Scottsdale. Not sure why the number of participants has fallen so low. Maybe Bob is right, we are getting older and cannot make as many runs as we would like. Or........now here i where I will take some heat, but that's OK, bring it on. I still participate in the Bay Area Cobra Club cruises. Why? Yes that's where we are from but if you want, log on to the BACC web site and take a look at the planned activities. The annual calendar comes out in Jan with monthly activities listed for the calendar year. All members are encouraged to make suggestions but the runs are planned months in advance. This year my wife and other AZ members will join in the 20th annual Snakes to the Lake in Sept. A trip from everywhere in the state of California to Lake Tahoe. Normally about 50-60 cars but there will be many more this year because of the 20th year.
DRAT: I liked your SD trip and spoke with you about this. I would have joined you except for some shoulder surgery. DON"T stop making recommendations you have some good ideas.
My point here is? For bigger turnouts I think we need to establish runs that are planned months in advance with some adhoc last min ideas thrown in. I only seems a few guys come up with ideas here while the quiet majority just don't attend. Here's why the BACC is and will always have more attendees that the AZ Club. If there's nothing for the girls to do and enjoy it doesn't happen in CA.
Now back to the RAT. Who doesn't like SD? Yes it's a long drive but weather and things to do there are limit less. Rat boy, put a trip together to the Marine Miramar annual Air Show. 1-2 nights stay with the air show, dinners, local cruise with the great SD guys. But......many will not attend because of the long drive. I guess AZ is a day trip only club without many of the wives. Maybe that's the best it will be. However, there is some reason the attendance has fallen to such a pitiful few of mostly the same guys.
I encourage "Rat Boy" and all others to throw out ideas out that might be for October/November. I think Bob mentioned the Grand Canyon. Beautiful run but needs a year out reservation plan if you want to stay on the rim.
While you guys are Cruising Route 66 I'll be in Huntington Beach for an annual Factory Five show. My 9th year of DJing the show. Planned each year the same weekend in April. Planning, planning, planning. Just my $.02
