Ford dealers were TOLD early on not to take deposits. I was at Barrett Jackson in Vegas last fall and talking to a guy looking at one and he told me that he had put a 200K deposit with a dealer. By that time the process had been known for about 6 months, I explained to him that the dealer wouldn't be involved and that deposits (fake) won't improve your chances. I was wandering around nearby the next day and he thanked me and told me he had gotten his money back.
