Thanks to Dan Ratti, we know the Conoco station/food mart in the America's Best Inn parking lot is now closed and shuttered. We will need to stop at the Circle K/Shell right after we turn left onto Main St in Springerville, about a mile before the Inn. Fuel, snacks and drinks pit stop.

Right Bob, Globe to Superior sucks, but that's always been the case. Los Hermanos still open though, so there is that for good news.

NNIETS, that car of Grumpy's has been all around this state without issue. I don't think you have to have a concern.. but if you feel like you need a reason, that about the best one anyone has offered..

Oh Yeah...?

Well try these on for size:
  • [1]My new car's tires are date coded 2001- They're garbage. New tires are on order, but won't be here until Friday at the soonest
[2]My feet don't reach the pedals I have to pull the driver's seat out and re-position it so I can push the clutch all the way in, without laying down in the driver's seat...

I hear that! Bob McLinden is over 6 foot, and I'm only 5' 7" (All of it perfect though...). I skootch down for launch and traffic lights, then sit tall in the saddle when I get up to speed. I'd like to move the pedals closer to my ass instead of vice-versa. Right now my relationship with the steering wheel is a little more intimate than I'd like.

I am going to meet you guys out at the Chevron sometime before 0730 Saturday and see you off and then take a drive out to Canyon Lake. Ron and Robert puts some blocks on your pedals and get out there so I can see your rides!

After Pete's report, I'm inclined to get to Apache Gold by going through Winkleman. Its more miles, but a nice drive, on good pavement, and sounds like a better way to go than beating the snot out of my car on the beat up pavement between Superior and Miami. I'll be leaving the Chevron Station at Idaho and the 60 at 7am and should be able to get to casino in plenty of time for the planned 9am departure from there. I did a Google and, from my house, its less than 20 more miles this way than through Globe. I'm thinking it'll be worth it.

I'll run with you, Karl. I drove that road a couple of weeks ago in my truck. Not fun.

Posting on Facebook? I'm still waiting for group member approval. I like pictures, and also coloring books, and crayons.

Mike - Have you been on the road to Canyon Lake lately? It's pretty rough. I got a flat on my boat trailer on that road early in the summer and couldn't feel the difference while towing. We're going to follow the group out to the arboretum, which we did last weekend. The road was fine save for one spot where it narrows temporarily, and even then the road wasn't bad.

Thanks for the heads up Ron. I did not realize that road was torn up also (last time I was on it was probably 20 yrs ago and it was in good shape then). I will hang with the crew out to the Arboretum.

Sooooo, Pete says that the Superior to Globe is crappy like usual, but we usually drive that way, and a group is going through Winkleman. So are we all changing meeting times and going that way together? What's the story here?

The road is fine out there Bruce. Ron S "The road was fine save for one spot where it narrows temporarily, and even then the road wasn't bad." AZ 511 - ADOT shows only some lane restrictions for 2 miles.

Note that I only went as far as the Arboretum. I didn't travel the road from Superior to Globe that Bruce is asking about. Did anyone talk to the Viper guys about that stretch?

Aliedog,
Your sense of humor ( Arg, Arg, Arg ) will be missed.

Karl,
I'll run with you and DanR, just in case you need help getting your car back on the pavement, or Dan needs a tow.

Guys my comment wasn't about pavement but the snarled up traffic. It's always congested but made worse right now with the lane narrowing. So if you're patient, and given the time of day you'll be going thru probably you're ok. That said Karl's Winkleman route is more fun 10 days out of 10 if you ask me.
