Step #1. Loosen set screw.
Step #2. Use at least a 36" long wrench
Step #3. Tighten the livinsheet out of it.
Step #4. Order Parts

Valve lash adjustment procedure, according to Danr.

Nope. They are hydraulics. The set screw snapped right above the oil port. Looks like the metal crystalized.

Sunday: Crossroads Gun Show Mesa
Monday: Barrett-Jackson
Tuesday: Padre Murphy's
Thursday: Silver Auction

But why did the set screw break instead of the rocker arm. And why did you need to adjust the valves, hydraulics usually don't need adjustment.

From initial.investigation, it appears that the thread root on the adjusting screw lacked the proper thread root radius creating a stress point. That combined with what is perhaps an errant hardening process combined to create a failure when torque was applied.

Translation: The thread was stripped and he cranked down too hard on it and the damn thing broke.

Nope. Loosed all the locknuts then turned the engine over by hand.. One full rotation of the distributor.

You still didn't say why you were adjusting hydraulic lifters when you should not have needed to.

Karl doesn't think we are getting the whole story.
