Birthday Lunch Run

My birthday is coming up and I was thinking about a run from Wickenburg to Lake Havasu City for lunch and returning via US60.or I-10 depending on your preference. Leave from McDonalds about 10:00 on Saturday Feb 4 weather permitting. Anyone interested?

Karl Bebout 01-23-2017 11:40 AM

The silence is deafening. Must be the destination and the time of year. I'm certainly up for a dry drive, but Havasu?

Danr55 01-23-2017 01:22 PM

It's the one place in Arizona we haven't driven to.. besides the back road out of Wickenburg looks like it might be fun..

Karl Bebout 01-23-2017 02:52 PM

60-72-95? Since i have no plans of staying over night in Wickenberg the night before, it would be almost a 500 mile day for me. No thanks.

Home to Wickenberg 95miles
Wick to Parker 109miles
Parker to Havasu 40miles

X2

Not much of a run....But if that is the best we can do....

Sonoita?

Danr55 01-24-2017 06:45 AM

Sonoita would be a lot of freeway driving unless we go thru Stafford again.

You are really milking that 45 minute fuel pump project, Scott... :p

----

How about Ajo?

Meet at the Chevron near Wildhorse Raceway around 10am, take Maricopa road (az347) down to Mobile Road (az238: short 50 mile road, but lots of twisties on it).

From Gila Bend, go south on 85 to Ajo. Lunch break at the Estrella Cafe in the historic district (there are a couple antique shops there if anyone wants to walk around for a little while, too. Ajo's not as cool as Bisbee, but it's a neat little mining town)

Then north on 85 back up to the I-8 (Gila Bend bypass) The speed limit on I-8 is 75. It's a nice long 4 lane road to shake out the speed-demons, and the eastbound traffic is usually pretty light on Saturdays.

Jump off I-8 at Stanfield (az84), shoot back to az347, back up through Maricopa/Wildhorse, and home...

Total distance from the racetrack Chevron to Ajo, and back, is 199 miles; so figure on a total of 280-300 miles for the entire day if you are coming from the far north, or far east valley...

Just a thought...

Danr55 01-24-2017 08:54 AM

I say it's way past milking it. What's going on Scotty?.

Scotchman 01-24-2017 09:34 AM

I returned the Holly Blue pump to Summit, and they shipped me a Carter 4600 with out the nuts, bolts, wires, etc. Then they shipped out those after I called, and the inlet and outlet nozzles are the wrong size. Something is telling me to stay off the road !

Karl Bebout 01-24-2017 10:25 AM

I like Rattle Can Robert's route. Would be something different and a more realistic day's drive. My 2¢.

Karl Bebout 01-25-2017 12:36 PM

Yea? Nea?
Yep? Nope?

I'm good to go for RB's route. BTW, the Chevron station @ Wild Horse has racing gasoline if anyone wants to give their little darlings a treat. Just remember, don't buy the leaded if you have O2 sensors.

Scotchman 01-26-2017 11:19 AM

Good news ! My 45 minute pump change turned into a 6 hour ordeal. I changed out the Holly Blue twice, each time trying to deaden the noise ( even trying a brand new pump ). Then installed a Carter 4600. New bracket, new plumbing, and no noise when engine is running !

I now have 3 used Holly Blues if anyone is interested in backups. 1 is shot, and the other 2 work fine. Just a little noisy, which is partly due to their bracket set up.

Karl Bebout 01-26-2017 11:49 AM

Scottie and Robert, are youse guys good to go on the route Roberts laid out? I am. Guessing it is not to Danr's liking, since he has not commented. We can celebrate his birthday, without him. You know the old "if you show, fine, if you don't, fine" club rule.

Anyone else want to stretch out their cars, Saturday after this, 02/04?

I WANNA DRIVE!

Danr55 01-26-2017 12:38 PM

Danr is watching from the wings.. We aren't sure if the boss has made other committments or not, yet.

moore_rb 01-26-2017 07:26 PM

Yeah, I think I'd be game...

Kinda playing things by ear here, too- We have some family business going on that might rapidly move to the top of the priority-list, but my car hasn't moved since the Oracle Junction drive, so it would be great to get it out of the garage for a day...

Who else is game for Feb 4...?

We're thinkin' about it. The car is in pieces right now. I'm waiting for headers to come back, re-working the fuel line from the pump to the float bowls, screwing with the seat tracks, and trying to get phone charging port hooked up. (Hey Karl - I found the cigarette lighter circuit!) Life is not leaving me alone though, so I'm having trouble finding time. (and tools, and "where in hell did I put that...")
