Sorry to hear that Bob. I would like the Salt River route. Only problem is breakfast before we head down the mountain.

JAFM!

Not Bob's but that's who he was running with, I'm thinking.

Gary, still planning on going to Showlow for breakfast and then on down through the canyon. Do you have a different route in mind?

Scottie and I as well as These folks from CA: Bennie, Mile, and Ralphie totally enjoyed our alternative route up through NM. There's at least 30-40 tight turns posted 20MPH as well as bunches of those signed at 50MPH, which of course are good for 70-80MPH in Cobras. Then there's also many opportunities for some high speed cruising with great visibility and good roads. More fun and much less tiring, for me, than the trail. Extremely enjoyable 500 miles of smiles this weekend.

Hi Guys ( and gals). Trip was great and weather was perfect and Karl didn't breakdown (as far as I know!). Next year we need a new place to stay. I have bedbug bites all over my arms and the room was filthy!

I have to admit they let us down this year. Next year we'll explore some different places to stay

I vote for either Hannigan Meadows or Show Low. We sure did enjoy the Salt river route. Had forgotten how scenic this route was as compared toPayson route.

Danr, what was your issue with the motel?
Bruce, did you see any bugs? I've always thought that they would infest the whole place rather than just one room. Did your brother get bitten or were you just the lucky one? Looks like spider bites to me.
Showlow would give us many more restaurant and motel choices.

Well, Karl, they are bedbug bites- almost 50 up and down my arms (both). Bedbugs can be limited to one infected bed or an entire motel. Judging from the reviews of the motel, this isn't the first complaint about them. Spiders don't bite that many times- maybe laying on an ant hill? The other complaint was the brown washcloths and towels with stains, the hair on the tub with the grungy, black bottom and the rocks and dirt in the carpet. But hey, that's just me. You're welcome to stay there again, but I won't. Other than that, the trip was great and the weather couldn't have been better.

Bruce, we were more fortunate than you. Our room was clean and so were the towels.
That said, I am up for better accommodations. Show Low would give us more, and hopefully better, hotel and dining options. Would Show Low work better?

Bruce, sure hope you didnt import any nasties back to your home. I had no issues with the place but I also have no aversion to staying some place else...unless it's big bucks

[quote=Karl Bebout;1467239]"America's Best is out. ShowLow is in."

So next year it's either drive the curvies to Hanagan Meadow for lunch and then on to Show Low or drive Karl's New Mexico route into Alpine and then on to Show Low for an evening of camaraderie and merriment? Sounds like a good plan to me
