Default New Years Day Run

For years, the AZ Cobras have taken a nice drive on New Years Day and here comes another. Weather permitttttting

Meet at the Chevron Station at I17 and Carefree Hwy for a 9am blast off.
Go over through Wickenburg, up rt 93 for 45 miles.
Turn right on rt 97. Go 12-15 miles to rt 96, turn left to go to Baghdad.
Have lunch at the Main Street Diner and then head home, by way of your choice:

Backtrack the same route. OR

Go down rt 96 to rt 89, turn right at Kirkland Jct. to go through Yarnell, etc OR

Go down rt 96 to Kirkland, left on rt 10, through Skull Valley and Iron Springs to Prescott, etc.

Lots of fun driving.

Weather permitting, I'm in. Better make sure the Diner is open.

Last time I was in Baghdad I asked about the diner being open and was assured that they would be. Also have their phone number to make another check as we get closer. Pretty nice people, good food, very large portions, nifty polished "5 and Diner" type place.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again and get the car out again. Vicki just had surgery on her broken arm so it’s a drive day decision for her.

Greg, "don't Bogart that joint, my friend" share a little and Vic will be good for the ride.

Medicinal purposes only.

I'm thinking 11:30-12:00. I'll be stopping in Wickenburg for fuel and then its about another hour to Baghdad. Got your snow tires on?

Today's Phoenix newspaper is forecasting zero precipitation for next Wednesday. Clouds and lower 60°s. Very tolerable. I WANNA Drive!

PHOENIX – A rock slide forced the closure of Interstate 17 southbound at milepost 252 near Sunset Point, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. This is expected to be an extended closure. Consider delaying travel or use an alternate route such as State Route 260 eastbound from Camp Verde to State Route 87 southbound at Payson. Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, by calling 511 and through ADOT’s Twitter feed,@ArizonaDOT. When a freeway closure or other major traffic event occurs, our free app available at ADOTAlerts.com will send critical information directly to app users in affected areas – where possible, in advance of alternate routes.

Depending on the weather and my disposition, I may or may not go home through Prescott then over to I17. Might be interesting to go to Prescot on Rt 10 through Skull Valley. Never been that way. Any takers?

I’m not a big fan of I-17. But I’ll go anywhere, just lead the way.

rt 10 thru skull valley runs right past our place just outside Prescott. it's a fun road if you happen to enjoy sweepers
needless to say, we've driven it many times.

This is expected to be an extended closure.

So much for the extended closure.
