If history is of any value in this purchase decision, the modern incarnation of this company is a company to steer clear of.

Like I always say AC Cars Ltd. Back in the 60's while they made the frames ,suspension, bodies and finished car except for engine and transmission to Shelby they also made the AC 289 and at least two of the cars were sold with Chevy engines from the factory, FACT! AC Cars got engines from Ford but was under no contractual obligation to them so they were flexible on what a customer wanted and would pay for!

While I don't agree with Chevy, Sacrelidge would be buying their all electric version. I saw a BMW I8 tonight sitting in a parking lot and while it was a beautiful looking car and all, I thought to myself, would I be willing to trade my Cobra for that car and it occurred to me that I would miss the sound of that engine. It's like music to the ears for me anyway....

Tom,

Really? What two cars came with a Chevy motor?
CSX# please

LMH 08-03-2020 09:48 AM

I’m not aware of any AC Sports leaving AC Cars with a Chevy engine. None of the jigs or fixtures were setup for Chevy nor was exhaust, throttle linkage, steering, so on. A check of the registry would say though. Possibly AK series cars? Those weren’t Sports though.

If two AC's came with Chevy motors that certainly was a low number. So why not more if it really happened.

Might be too much sun for Tom, he lives at the beach.

Brain Angliss told me about two AK MK IVs sold to someone in Saudi Arabia in the 80's. When they got to customs they were refused entry as the were Ford powered and the Saudi's had a boycott of Ford as Ford did business with Israel.

Solution? Ship back to Weybridge, grind all of the "FoMoCo" marks off the engine, paint them Chevy orange a put some "Chevrolet" decals on the air cleaner and valve covers. Ship back to SA and have them clear customs no problem!

Jeff, that would be COB or COX Really? And you are supposed to be some sort of expert!

1985 CCX 08-04-2020 12:48 PM

Tom,

Still always claiming CSX cars had Cheby plants but wow, nothin...... now COB / COX, its a reach Tom. Let's just say it doesnt count if your references are after 1969.
I'll look tonight in the book as there were not many of those cars either.
Again #'s your so confident about?
You seem so dilligent with the Cheby thing, figured you would know. So absolute; but yet so fact free in your claims.

Yes, we were kids and your CCX had a Cheby motor, still not the same as the FE :)
Still makes these cars less desirable as the "Powered by Ford" is part of the gig. Guessing your going to start referencing the Don Johnston Daytona next?
Yup, those too had a Cheby plant...

1985 CCX 08-05-2020 02:09 PM

Tom,

Gave it a look and only found 289, 427 and 428 cars?
Maybe you are confusing these with a Scarab?

Didn't Shelby first talk with Chevy wanting to use their SB but was turned down and then went with Ford.

He did, but was for a different car made in Italy. Very period Ferrari-ish looking thing. Chevy brass saw it, decided the Corvette didn’t need any competition. Well before Shel saw the later upcoming SB Ford engine and AC losing the Bristol I-6 source.

If electric isn't bad enough who is going to spend that money and get a 2.3 litre 4 cylinder. What is the piece of wood at the back of the engine? Just being picky but I don't like the routing of the master cylinder cable:( JD

Thanks. Very good reason for not using the Chevy SB later.

Jeff, I don't look on here for awhile and look at you just going on! I never ever said a CSX came with a Chevy! I said AC Cars Ltd. made at least two Cobras with Chevy engines as stated in a few different books by Brian Leban , Ian Stent , David Fetherston, Jim Youngs, Steve Temple and as told to me by a Shelby mechanic who later went on to make replicas. And although I cannot seem to get any pics to transfer on here I have text you just one article about Chevy in an AC and about the New AC Cars Ltd (what ever that is ) and how they use the Chevy LS engine. Again you have been weighed, you have been measured and you have been found wanting!

" grind all of the "FoMoCo" marks off the engine, paint them Chevy orange a put some "Chevrolet" decals on the air cleaner and valve covers."

Sounds to me like they were ford motors disguised as Chebies.... or Chebys...or Brand X....

Tom,

Text over and I'll post for yah!
