Thumbs up The Arizona Caravan Plan....

So far we have eight cobras from Arizona commited to the
fling. Me and MikieC have discussed our route and this is what
we would like to do.
We will meet up on the Beeline Hwy somewhere near Shea and the Beeline on June 18th at about 8:30AM. I think there is a gas station there. MikieC is gonna go out that way and find out for sure where the best place to meet will be. From there we will continue through Payson and on to Holbrook near I-40. We hope that there will be a west coast group meet up with us there
around 11:30AM.
we'll leave Holbrook and head for Amarillo, Tx. where we will stop for Dinner and the night. If we don't make Amarillo we should be reasonably close. Either way we will stop around
6:30 PM.

Wednesday June 19th... We'lll leave Amarillo after breakfast and head for Rolla, Mo. we will stop there or close to for the night.

Thursday June 20th... It's breakfast and back on the road. Our next stop should be London, Oh. around 3 or 4pm.
We plan on stopping every 150 miles or so for fuel and stretching.
Also we will stop for 45 minute lunch breaks.

I think all will go according to plan if we stay aware of our time
during the stops and expidite our fueling and other tasks as
quickly as possible.
Most of us have cell phones and we will have a list of all the
numbers for everyone. All will be appointed a partner that will
stay behind with you if you break down. This way everyone can continue and the partners can catch up to us when we stop for the night. This is only if the problem is not too serious. I have two cell phones and I will lend it to anyone that needs it.
Our return trip will be about the same in reverse except for
when we get to Amarillo we will cut down I-35 then cut over
toward Alamagordo, NM then over to I-10 on to Tucson, Az.
This way has less mountains and is not that much further for us Phoenix guys. It breaks up the trip and allows the Tucson guys
to get home first. After all they had to drive up to Phoenix to meet us.
Any and all ideas willl be appreciated. This is only a rough draft so give us your input so we can get it all finalized.
When we do get things final, I will post on the main forum about our stop over so others can try and meet up with us if they wish.
Man ! I haven't typed this much since my last homocide investigation !

Hersh,

Sounds like a fun trip - wish I could make it, but won't be able to this year.

One suggestion would be to try to have some contacts along the way - i. e., other friends/CC members who might be able to render assistance in the event a more serious breakdown occurs.

Anywhere in this NE Ariz area, I'd be glad to help if needed.

Hersh,

You beat me to it.

Neal, good idea.

Tucson gang, We can put you guys and Gals up for the night if you do not want to leave Tucson that early in the AM. It might make more sense to meet up in Holbrook for you guys. That way it is a straight shot. However, you will miss the trip through the white mountains and rim.

Remember we need as many ideas and alternatives as you can come up with.

Mike

Hersh, I like the idea of leaving on Tuesday. That gives us an extra day in case of weather or ???. There are a lot of small towns around Rolla, MO. and also wine tasting at local wineries. Can the MO. guys help us out in that area ? B & B Cobra's is just south of I-40 and east of Joplin. Perhaps if we get rained upon, Brian could put us up in his warehouse/garage? We should be able to pick up a few Oklahoma cars along the way. I mentioned to Mikec about tools that we might bring along. there is no need to duplicate tools, can you come up with a master tool list and each of us can bring a part of it ? John

Thumbs up Good going guys, this is a start...

Neal, I wish you could come, we would have a ball. Thanks for
the offer. We just might need it .

Mikie, I forgot about the overnight, glad you mentioned it. I have the guest house available and an extra bedroom. Paula
wants to have a send off party on Monday before we all leave.
So let me know if any of you are interested. Staying over is no
problem we're glad to have ya". You're right too about possibly
meeting in Holbrook. That is a straighter route for them.

John, if it works out that the weather stops us in Mo then I
think that could be a plan. As far as tools go I think a small hydraulic jack would be nice. A small compressor that plugs into
a cigarette lighter or has aligator clips. A four way lug wrench.
A safety kit, flares. reflectors. I have a portable CB radio I'll bring.
I think everyone will have a flashlight. You might want to bring
some extra tailight bulbs and some fuses. A small wiring kit
might be helpful. Also if you have regular cobra seats be
sure and bring some small pillows. You will be glad you did.

In order to help prevent break downs I would like for all of us
that are going to meet at my house a couple weeks before.
We can go over our plans and those who want can use
my lift so that you can safety check the underside of your car.
I can't enphasize enough as to how important it is to make
sure your cobra is in good safe condition for the trip. It's
better to have 3 or 4 pair of eyes looking over and under
your car than one. If any of you wish to use it sooner you are
welcome to use it. Just let me know you"re coming.

Well that's about it for now. Keep the ideas coming guys.

Hersh

Hersh - do you know how many Arizona guys from this forum are planning on coming? From what I can see so far; your good self in the GT40, some lucky tourist from Australia in a Midstates, John from Tucson and MikeC in his FFR. Have I missed anyone?

Also, any idea on how many West Coast, Oklahoma and Texas guys are joining the Arizona Caravan?

June just seems so far away, I can't wait!!!!!!

Default parts

I haven't read this whole thread but is anyone driving something other than a cobra? We are donating some items and wondered if someone could take them back. Less freight more donations.

Thanks mike

Hersh, will those roofracks be installed on your GT40 by then?

Mike, there are some guys from California taking a 2 or 3 car trailer behind a Chev truck. If they're coming through Arizona, I'd say they might have some space. Jamo, Turk and ERA535 are the men to ask if you have no luck with Arizona travellers.

Mike andCraig,
I heard that there was one of the Tucson guys might come
along in a truck to carry exrta gear but I haven't
heard anymore about it. Maybe MikieF or Tucson John
might know more about it .
Sorry guys...NO ROOF RACK !
I'm still trying to figure out where I'm gonna put all the
wife's stuff in the GT, not to mention my stuff.

Hey Hersh, Bill Lardner is the Tucson man that you are thinking of. He mentioned the thought of driving behind us with a parts/help truck. I'll call him tomorrow evening, it's too late now. I just came back from driving RV's from Yuma to San Diego for the last three days. You might email him, I don't have his email address handy but MikeC will. John PS. If you run short of space for clothes, I can take some in my car. But remember that my car is not coming back.
