Default Coronado Trail Run 2021

Conversation has already started on Facebook about CTR. The first step is picking a date. Karl threw out 10/2-10/3 on Facebook. I spoke with Karl, he'd like to see if 10/2 works out and suggested opening a thread to poll those who are interested in going this year.

If 10/2 works for you please respond, your in. If it doesn't work for you, please let us know what works better for you. However, please keep in mind we may not be able to satisfy all conflicts. I know Scottie has a conflict the previous weekend.

The date usually depends on the monsoon. The end of Sept. or the first of Oct. Is usually good. I'm good with either provided the rains have stopped. Driving a cobra across the rim in the rain is not a great experience.

Meet at the Chevron station at Idaho and the 60 TBD on Saturday morning, Oct 2. Drive to Globe then down to Safford. On to Morenci. Some will go on the Coronado Trail and some will continue East and then North in NM to Alpine and on to Springerville for the night. Leave Sunday for breakfast in Showlow. On to either Payson or Globe and the Valley. That's the thumbnail.

Danr, I'll most likely lunch in Alpine at the Bear Wallow since I'll take the route 180 up through NM. De TRail has not beeeen good to me I'll try real hard to nor gorge myself so I'll have room for dinner in Springerville/Egar

Good as we will probably follow you. I've driven the trail seven times so I know the way. Could use something new that doesn't involve a side trail to the office or the dump.

I like the New Mexico bypass route. Last year I barely escaped a motorcycle mishap with 5 horses in the road on a blind curve. Later same day two elk. Stopped in Hannagans meadow to rest up and get my juju back, then saw two bikers guzzling beer by the tankard and thought to myself, naw. Ain’t worth it anymore. I gotta get outta here. Great road though! You will enjoy!

"two bikers guzzling beer by the tankard"

Maybe they were getting their JuJu back? What better way to cover the trail than with a good buzz on?

I have penciled in Oct 2&3 on the calendar...

but then- I think I have done that 7 years in a row now, and still have yet to actually pull it off...

But every year, a new dream is born. One of these years, it will come true.

Robert, don't "pencil" the dates in. Use indelible ink and talk about it every week or so to keep it top of mind for those "reasons".

So far, lookin like 9 "yes", "probably", "maybe", and quite a few no response. I'm thinking I'll try to score 15 rooms and see how that goes. I'm also going to talk to the manager at the America's Best to see if they have made a concerted effort to get rid of what ever bugs had bitten DrDuc and I believe there had also been an issue with worn out towels. We'd always gotten excellent service there and I'd like to give them another chance if they've made the corrections. I'll also check the few other motels in the area for comparison.
