All drug seizure automobiles by the Feds are turned over to the custody of the U.S.Marshall's. They in turn have a public auction where these vehicles, boats, planes, etc are auctioned off. The proceeds go into the U.S. Treasury general fund

I'm no drug lord, but I have stepped out of a vehicle to face a LEO with a drawn sidearm. It's a little disconcerting.
