Night at the Drags?
Mike, any chance you are looking at a Cobra Night at a drag strip? Seems to me that I'd heard that you'd done that in the past. I'd certainly like to take my "backward" motor'd car out for a run or three. As you know, I don't have a roll bar and am wondering if that would be a problem at a privately hosted event. I've actually been considering getting a bar, not that I think it would necessarily prevent the big dirt nap, but may be the only way I can get the car on the strip. Karlos

Karl,
I'm waiting for the weather to warm up a little more.
The Drags will be held on Wed. Nights. The cobras are allowed to run as long as we keep it above 11.99 seconds. Wed nights are like a test and tune night.
Helmets, long sleeve shirts are needed. The car will have to pass tech.
To run on the weekends we need to meet all NHRA regs. Which for your non roll bar convertible would be 13.99 seconds. Not sure if that backwards motor will run that fast.

Drags Info
Thanks for the info, Mike. I'm sure you are fairly correct in your wonderment if the old black car will go quicker than the break out limit. One never knows, but I don't remember too many FoMoCo guys mentioning that they'd want to take the chance that the nasty rat might dust them. Dang! Bit my tongue again. Shouldn't have it so firmly in my cheek. Karlos

LMAO
I enjoy a man with a sense of humor. Must come from having ones feet scrunched up in the footbox.

Karl,
No problem! 11.99, just pull a couple plug wires off that BBC. You should be OK!
Now slowing the Car down to 13.99 is the problem! That will take some serious thought.

George, thanks for the vote of confidence. The car is sorta perky and of course traction is awlays an issue. The 325.50.15 BFG Drag TAs do a fairly good job as long as I don't use too much loud pedal from a dead stop. The lengthened stroke makes real close to 600#s of torque at 3400 RPM. I'm going to tweak my pinion angle down a couple more degrees to see if I can't hook up better. K.

Karlos,
Sounds like you have a lot of time and money invested in your ride. I'm all for having fun, but take it from someone who broke his back having fun........ you REALLY need a full width 6 point rollbar , 5 point harness, arm restraints, gloves, snell 95 helmet, fuel cutoff switch, battery cutoff switch, driveshaft safety loop. Playing russian roulette racing these short wheelbase cars isn't a smart idea without the safety equipment.

Perry, no doubt your suggestions are spot on. I have never quite figured out just why I built so much power into my little hot rod, other than the typical male response of "why not?". I don't plan on ever taking the car out for track time and would just like to hit the drag strip a few times to see how well the 4 1/2 #s per HP performs. (if I ever get around to finish plumbing the nitrous set up, that ratio will drop to 3 1/2 #s, I'm not much of a moderate). I know that it only takes one time to have a severe "oops" but I'm such a fatalist that I think that when it's my time to buy the farm, its going to happen regardless of what I do. Until that time, I'll just keep getting the groceries for "She Who Must Be Obeyed". Karlos

I think that the 1st ever Fun ford event at Firebird in November would be a good outing for the Cobra guys/girls.
