Any Auto Club Members?
I got to thinking that with driving season approaching quickly (well as soon as it drops a few hundred degrees) and the fact that I carry no spare tire, limited tools, and parts, that it would be a wise decision to join the AAA.
Anybody here a member and would you recommend it?
Internet rate for the AAA Plus was $83 plus the $15 fee. One tow would take care of that.

I've been a member of AAA for about thirty years now. I think it's worth it, especially when you're 85 miles outside of East Camel's Breath, Idaho with a major problem. They offer other services also, such as trip planning, maps, travel agency services, license/registration/title services, etc.

Yes..........
I also have been a member for some time now.
When your in BFE and you break down, it's no questions asked they will come get ya! I have the gold package (I think) and it has 100 mi free towing. I have used it on my car, my wife's car (flats & locked her keys in the car), Heck I even had my buddys Cobra towed form the track when it broke down. And again, no questions asked............
Living in the desert with this heat you never know what is going to happen, so I say yes it is worth it!
Gasket boy I have a question for ya:
Can you machine phoelnolic (spelling) material? I want to put a carb spacer in my Cobra and have only 0.250" to play with. I can not find a plate that size and was going to buy a 1/2" and mill it to size. Is this the right approach?
Keep it above 100.............
Brian

Brian,
I have actually been out of the gasket business for a little over two years now. Kept my same user name though. Now I deal with guitars.
Short answer, yes I could. Did one a few years back for Bob B. and his Superformance. There are some local places to get the phenolic from, and 1/4" may be a stock thickness. I made Bob's using a drill press, band saw, and sander. Sorry, no stash of material at home - I'll dig up my old biz card file for a local source. I can use a gasket for a template.
My guess is that you need it for the Holley pattern?
BTW - I joined over the net yesterday. Good peace of mind.

I was talking with my cousin the other day. She had a flat on the freeway and called AAA, read them her CC # and joined right then. They had a truck there in 20 minutes!

Thanks
Thanks Jeff,
I was wondering if the material lends itself to maching? I have the capabilities to machine I just did not know if the material would fray, or crack I am going to look for that size on the net, or buy a carb spacer and then mill it to size. Thanks for the info.
Ya know some people can sing, some can play guitars, I can't do neither

Brian,
Phenolic does lend itself to machining more so than die cutting. Its a brittle material and fractures easily.
I think there are some local places to get the material. My memory is fading. Some of the local plastics suppliers should be able to help.
Don't feel bad - I can't sing or play guitar either. That's why they hired me.
take care,
Jeff
