Question ANY IDEAS ANYONE>>>Recommendations for Transmission Checkup

Before I install my stock T5, I would like to have someone go through it to be sure it's ok. I don't know of any problems, but the donor had a blown head gasket so I didn't get to drive the car more than about 50 feet. Any recommendations of where to take it?

Dave,

Are you going to make the party on Saturday? If so we can ask around then.

Mike

Dave, I wish I had done a trans rebuild on my T5. They seem to be the weak link in the drive train. Mine comes out of 4th gear when I let off the gas.

This may not be helpful because it isn't a local suggestion, but you might try Bruce Couture at Modern Driveline, http://www.moderndriveline.com. He is in northern CA (San Jose) and is very active in the norcal Shelby club. He specializes in rebuilding and beefing up T5's. Nice web site too.

I was just thinking...

VPK-KLR had a deal awhile back with a tranny company for rebuilt
units. he might still have the name of the shop. Tey may be able to help out in checking the unit.

This goes a few years back, but I used to drive a DONOR (5.0 Mustang) with an AOD. The trans was slipping badly. Got a recommendation to go to an independent guy located in an automotive repair park (on Scottsdale Road, south of Curry on the west side of the road -- wish I could remember the name of the place... I'll see if I can look it up...).

The guy who ran the place (a one-man shop) had quit his job at a chain transmission shop because he got disgusted with how they took advantage of people. He had an older 4x4 truck in one of the bays in which he had put in an overdrive trans (GM unit, I believe). It was his. I knew I had found a fellow gearhead...

Anyway, he fixed my trans for about $120. He even called me on the telephone (mid-day) and had a big explanation about one extra part he had originally forgotten to tell me about that he suggested replacing. I thought he was going to do the big up-sell thing on me. Turns out it was a part that was less than $2. So maybe the total was closer to $122. Car ran great until I sold it -- about three years later.

Thanks for the tips! Mike, I will not be able to make the party this weekend although I look forward to future activities. My progress is slow but I am having fun. The next activity is brake lines.
