Car Killers
If you drive a Cobra, then you know... Anyone with an after market muffler or a rear spoiler wants to race you. I mean, the engine revving at the stop lights can get tiresome.
However, every once in a while a worthy apponent comes along.
Do you ignore them? Do you smile and go about your business because you do your racing at the track? Or do you give in to your primal urges and kill 'em at the next light?
What I want to know is... What cars have you killed lately?
For me:
Nissan 350z
Subaru WRX
BMW Z4
So many mustangs I've lost count
I will however admit to receiving a nasty whipping from a Viper on the 101 fwy. (500+hP... fugetaboutit!)

Madik,
I just tell them that if they want to find out how fast ther car is to come to the road race track with me. I won't street race anyone for any reason. For several reasons, none of which I am a saint or don't do stupid things. But up here that is a fine large enough to buy a new car, possible loss of drivers license and consfication of vehicle. In other words they frown upon it. I got stopped pulling out of a parking lot because my tires chirped and the cop told me that he coud write me up for speed exibition, and speeding. When I pointed out that I was doing about 10 miles an hour he said he would let it go that time.

For many reasons I don't race..
Tickets
Insurance rate
Nothing to prove
No balls
and probably the most important reason is "that I might get beat"!!
owning a Cobra carries a lot of responsibility... I'll be damned if I'm gonna be the one that loses to a "Ricer".
Hell, Mercedes is putting out two ton sedans that'll do incredible 0 to 60 times. Just my luck to get beat by one of those..

I get far more pleasure by bumping my SO a little in response to their invitations...........then, I just sit at the light and watch them go.
The best time was when the unmarked Crown Vic was 3-4 cars behind.........

I like to bait them, especially when I know there is a cop within earshot. I'll yell something back like "You know you'd lose, so why bother?!?" They take off like a scalded cat and I just idle away while the cop does the rest.
As I've gotten older, I've learned that the risk/return in any form of street racing just doesn't add up. Best to save it for the track.

You can certainly tell we all grown up and respect the power of these cars. You'all are exactly right. It's not worth the tickets, lose of license or anything else. The challengers are the ones that don't know if there ride can win or lose. We know what our cars can do.
If they are serious and want to bet, get them to a track and take their money. Most of them will not take you up on the bet anyway.
I normally just shake my head when they rev up at the light and look at me. I.m like RedBarchetta, bait em up and let em get caught.

Clay, man can I relate. Not long ago a guy in his Honda with a fart can sees me part, cruises by and gives it a good revving along with the 'stare down'. I take my time going in to pick up some Thai and he comes by and does it again. After I came out of the resturant with my food, here he comes again! I start the car as quietly as possible and wait. He cruised up slowly and just as he begins to race his motor I rev mine up hard. Couldn't even hear his car. Never saw the guy again. I wonder if he thought he was gunning for a Miata or something?
I am against street racing in general. But occasionally I will give them a quick taste on the freeway and more often entrance ramps. Love it when the 'boy racer' is sitting on my arse waiting to get on the ramp and then bobs back and forth behind me like I should hurry up or something. Then I stand on it (up to the speed limit ) and check my mirror. Looks almost like they came to a stop!
Word to the wise. Beware of some of those ricers. Check out some of their 1/4 times. Most are posers but there are quite a few running 11s and 12s. Some even faster. Check out the times from the last run and gun drag strip event. When you dare them out to the track, beware! I can't tell you how many econboxes have beat me at Solo II. Especially with the P.O.S. 15" tires we have to choose from.

Do a search on "taunting to race" for a thread a little while back that did some coverage on the subject.

They can be quick on the autocross and quick in the 1/4 mile, but very seldom will the same ricer be quick in both.

well............
well nothing like a Z06 for breakfast, but I do like to keep it at the track. Most of the time when on the road I just smile and know that I could take them, the hard part is finding that twisty road to really make them look bad. If we are stopped I like to talk about the track, the street racers won't touch that one. If they know you run on the track with the car they shut down, and do not want to come to our play ground. But...........
Sometimes you just need to show them who is boss.............
