Mike, Your welcome.
FYI: Mul has too many toys and money, that is why the Government sends him stuff wanting their cut! .............just kidding Mul.
I did document my boat though the Coast Guard. I almost registered my boat with AZ numbers and thought about buying same boat in Colorado to advoid state taxes like most people do in California. .................well last year the state sent me something in the mail wanting to know if I had proof of payment to AZ State for state sales tax. I showed I paid the dealer and all was well. If I would have bought the boat in Colorado and brought the boat here to use I think I would have owed AZ some $$. They can always find you with computers these days.

Ok Kiddies simmer down.
1st
For all you experts it's MVD here in AZ. Not DMV.
2nd
I didn't get my insurance till 2 weeks after I got the car registered. So much for needing to show the MVD any insurance papers.
3rd
Tony's car was reg as a 1999 (I think) from another state and he got AZ historic plates here.
Me thinks some of you need to keep taking your happy pills.
Have a good day.
Mike
Go down and reg the damn thing and get it over with.

Bill- i was saying to Mike that i agreed with your post above mine.
Dave-
1.-MVD or DMV .........semantics.
2-i confirmed this about two pages back.
3-That's great about the Historic plates, but i do believe that puts addition restrictions on the car.

AZ reg
Brought my cobra here from CT. in '05. I tried to get dmv to title it as '65 they said no dice. Titled in another state as '04 special construction stays that way (despite my best efforts to convince them otherwise) They even used same cheeseball foil sticker vin tag & number. I also tried to get them to use the brass tag era riveted on frame no deal. This dmv almost as silly as CT.

When I went to the DMV I was totally worried about the tags and having the car registered as a 2002 (year it was complete per DMV) when I talked to them on the phone they said "bring in all of your receipts and we will determine the year based on when the parts were purchased" with that said I ran.
I then purchased a title for a 1965 2DR (back in those days there was no model number on the title) from a reputable firm back east, made a VIN tag to match the newly acquired documents and off to the races. When I went to the DMV (Greenfield) they had to transfer the title from Wisconsin to AZ and wala historic plates. When they asked how much I purchased the car for I gave them the price that was on the title.. no harm, no foul... So let's see the math..
1965 Cobra: tags $35.00 a year, and the car is driven 3K miles a year = $0.007 cents a mile.
2004 Ford F-150: tags $500 a year, and the truck is driven 25K miles a year = $0.02 cents a mile
So on a sliding scale per use and age I think it is about right, and I feel like I can sleep another night knowing that the tax man (person) won't come and take a hub cap or something worse for back deeds.
Point of all this, there are many ways to register a cobra in AZ and pay what makes you feel good because there are no set rules in life or the AZ DMV.

Well...I got up early today to go to the DMV today on Main in Mesa. Looked out and it was raining pretty hard. Since I need to take the Cobra I didn't go, as planned. After reading all the post I really don't know what to expect. I will take Mesa Dave's recommendation and just go and get it registered. After reading this I did decide not to bother with the "vintage" plates. Keep your fingers crossed. I will just try to be pleasant and and smile and see where it takes me. Thanks guys. I'll see any of you at the cheeta factory, rain or shine.

.OK guys....here's the latest in my adventure with he MVD. ALL DONE . Went down to the station on Greenfield south of Hiway 60. Well it really isn't on Greenfield. I was south bound on Greenfield until I was in nothing but cow pastures. Made a U-Turn and only missed it by 9 miles. Drove directly to the back of the building and met a very nice young lady who was so excited over seeing a Cobra. She noted my CA VIN on the frame and again under the hood. She filled out the paper work as a 1965 Ford Cobra. Inside with my paper work and waited about 1 hr. to make it to the window. All was moving along fine until the lady at the window couldn't find a Ford Cobra in their guide book. Lots of behind the doors discussions with several staff and they returned to register the car as a 1965 SPCON Roadster. I elected to register for a 2 yr. period with personalized plates. Total charges were $50 for the personalized plates ($25 +$25) and $37 for two years tags. Total out the door was $87.00. It was actually very pleasant. When I presented my paperwork to the window inside the lady said, "oh you're the one with the Cobra". I asked her how she knew and she said "oh everyone knows your here, we were wondering which one of us would get to meet you". Several people mentioned BJ and the "supersnake $5.5M auction price". All set with the new plate and waiting for my personalized plate to arrive 4-6 weeks. It will read H I S S S Y. Oh one more thing, they never asked about proof of insurance and said, "of course you don't need to smog it". Well ......you guys can no longer rag on me for the CA plates.

No Dave, just a little stressful. Thanks for the tip about the MVD location. How's the back? DMV vs. MVD. Which makes more sense?

Ya it's been 13 years since I left Cali and it will always be the DMV, none of this MDV stuff that AZ started...
Congrats on getting your plate hope to see you at a run sometime.
Have fun
