Default 1967 cobra emissions testing

I'm looking at a cobra titled as a 1967 in NJ. It has a 1967 side oiler and thus had to be registered as a 1967. After reading about the issues on an earlier post I think passing on this car might be prudent. I'll stop by the Scottsdale Airpark MVD on Monday and get the word from an inspector. Thoughts?
Thanks, john

I recently bought a 68 mustang to restore and it has to have emissions testing done. The lady at the MVD said if it was a 67 it woud be okay.
Don't know if she was correct but a quick check with them will let you know.

3 MVD offices told me that a 66 is exempt, testing starts at 67. I tried Scottsdale (Paradise), Mesa (Greenfield), and Mesa (Mesa Dr.) Good Luck

Smile Buy land up north !!!

Emissions testing, what is that? Buy one of my extra houses and use the address for the car registration.

It is still a copy of a '65 or '66. It's just the fact that another state decided to base the registration on the year of the engine.

I tried the re-titling trick because mine was registered a 67, Scottsdale MVD has a book with pictures of a 65,66,and a 67 Shelby Cobra in it. Depending on what the exterior of your car looks like (trim) is what they are going to call it. They were hesitant to move from 67 to 66 anyway.

Default 15 year emission requirments

It is my understand that here in Arizona Emission testing requirments are based on the year that a Replica's MSO shows. If it has not been titled before. If Titled before as if you bring a car in from another state and they have classified it as a 1965 or 1966 then it would be registered here as same as the State it was last titled in.Right now on new construction the Replica kit's MSO date would need to be 1988 or older this year and 1989 next year. And be insured as a "Classic" Even better if the MSO called it a 1965 or 1966.
In the same light you can't take a late model car and put an older High Performance Engine in it and use the engine age as the critera for the smog check it would be the age of the frame in this case not engine

I just returned from the Scottsdale Airpark MVD. I talked to Larry in the inspections area and he told me that it doesn't matter that the Cobra title from another state says 1967. They register it as to what it represents. A 1965 Cobra.
